Not sure if these pics will work, have tried imgur and Flickr but can't make sense of how to upload! Hopefully someone will come along and sort it out for me please 😁

The most eventful part of yesterday was the return journey, which I'll get to in a moment...I feel a bit of a fraud posting this as a report as we did the tiddly 50cm ODE at Pachesham and, as expected, it was me, giant horse (comparatively speaking), and teeny riders on ponies. I was relieved that a few adults were there inc a fellow Wobbleberry!

Having lost our jumping mojo lately, I wasn't really excited at all, felt fairly meh to be honest. On the plus side, that meant I didn't have a sleepless night and wasn't sick with nerves beforehand.

Main aim was to complete and try to enjoy it. The step down in height meant I rode better and more confidently, which F needs from me right now. Dressage a bit lacking in oomph but he perked up for the jumping. Lots to improve on - I need to learn how to ride a sj course and F needs to learn to be out on a xc course on his own. The only issue was him being backward at the furthest point away - luckily the jump was so small he walked over it but he didn't step back so we ended up clear. Some nicer moments once we turned for home.

Ended up 2nd place with 32.4 and yes I was beaten by a 9 year old, who did a fab test! Nice rosette and a mug, and a big grin from me.

Then just over a mile from home the gear stick on the lorry went, on a hill just off a busy road. Totally stuck with drivers whizzing past and beeping me - like I was there out of choice 😠. We flagged a passing police car who helped us reverse to a quieter road then decided it was best to get Finnegan home whilst we waited for the recovery vehicle as it was so hot. My saint of a horse put up with being tacked up on the lorry, unloaded onto the road (eyes on stalks and a bit wired!) and then hacked home! Luckily I had high vis with me. He really is a total dude.

Horse and lorry safely home eventually but the liveries weren't half surprised when I came hacking into the yard having set off in the lorry hours earlier!

Not sure how I feel about the day though - we did complete, we did better than I thought, and i def enjoyed bits of it. But I still have a way to go confidence wise. I've deferred the Wobbleberry Challenge to next year so with more time I'm hoping we'll be back confidently tackling some bigger stuff but, for now, tiddly stuff it is...

Nothing wrong with tiddly stuff as confidence is key. Even pro riders take a step back with a young horse before moving on again (WB's are like young horses!) Well done for completing and coming 2nd - great result and you conquered the Pachesham swamp! ;)

Bad luck with lorry - hope nothing serious

Ooh lovely square halt in the dressage!!

Don't worry about doing tiny stuff, keep going at it until you and your horse feel confident. it's not a race, enjoy yourself!

Well done for getting out there and doing it. Just build it up gradually, the most important thing was that you were able to ride him as you wanted to - as long as you can keep doing that you will end up at 80 in no time. Really well done.

Lovely pics, well done :) I am in the same position really, Jensen was doing really well (schooling over BE90 just fine) but then suddenly we had a nightmare of a hunter trial where he wouldn't do anything... followed by refusing to load the next week when we were off to do a confidence building 60cm course.... now a visit from the chiropractor has pretty much finished our eventing hopes this year :(

I am trying to remain positive so hope you can too - loads of practice over the autumn and winter, then come out in a blaze of glory next season :) :)

I do hope the lorry isn't too costly.....

Well done Bernster, good result :) Just keep on going and don't overthink it. It doesn't matter if it takes another 12 months for you to feel like you're ready to crack on, all these successful outings will build up gradually until you will suddenly find you've got your mojo back. Pics are great.

Thanks for the kind and encouraging words. And fab work dabdab on getting my blooming pics to work, it is clearly beyond me! I hope you get your mojo back Levrier and that things improve soon.

The water is pretty yuk, and going this way round meant going into the steeper bit. Luckily we have lots of water near the yard so he's pretty good about that stuff.

Apparently the lorry should be fairly easy to fix. Had we broken down any closer, the recovery wouldn't have covered me (has to me over 1 mile from home). Any further away and we wouldn't have been able to unload and hack home. So oddly it worked out amazingly well in the circs.

Well done for getting out there and doing it, and doing it rather well!

Ive a fabulous instructor who tells me the height doesnt matter, your horse will never loose his jump, but if you cant get him to a fence in the right way to jump it then he will choose to stop jumping, so doing what you are happy with is 100% the right thing to do i think.

I love your smile at he end after not really wanting to go in the first place and that is a successful day in itself imo.

Onwards and upwards (whenever you are ready for it!).

That's a really good way to look at it. He does feel like he's just waiting for me to get my act into gear again and my ins has said the same. It's the poor approach and my panic riding that means he can't jump it properly. When I ride right, he jumps it nicely. Go figure
