I thought some might remember a post from a while back, talking about my lame anglo gelding. Its a long story i wont bore you with, but it ended with a vet giving a probable diagnosis of chronic lameness. He was turned away for the summer, with a view to having him put to sleep at the end. He has had a difficult and it seems traumatic life, starved and beaten from what we can gather, though we have no proof.

I posted when, the day we were to make the appointment, he was found to be sound as a bell. I rebacked him a month ago, and we have hacked on the forest and the road, walk trot and canter, and last saturday we jumped a small log. Nothing extraordinary at all, but it means the world to me, to do all this on a horse I thought I'd never sit on again.

Sorry this is a bit self indulgent, but for anybody who was wondering how he was getting on, now you know.

Hi

I had an ID x TB gelding who went lame suddenly one day and over a few months just didn't come sound. Vet xrayed and xrays were inconclusive but he suspected navicular. All sorts of different shoes were tried and he got lamer and lamer and in the end the vet said stop and pts. I decided to take off his shoes and turn him away for the winter and he came back in as sound as a pound and has never looked back. Sometimes I think rest is the best cure.

Oh wow, what was the original lameness diagnosis? was there one?

My cob is pretty lame, id say chronically and im debatng having her PTS but my vet has advised me to wait until after winter and see how she goes-obv im more than happy with this because i love her but its heartbreaking watching her nod everywhere.

I pray the summer brings me a sounder horse, i dont want to ride her- i just want her happy.

Hi, I didn't see your earlier posts on your boy, but I just wanted to say what great news

I know just how you feel. My mare went lame and was turned away ostensibly to be retired in September 2005. Long story short - She was sound in April 2006 and we have never looked back
