Any recommendations?
wanted something that frees up elbow, current girth sits too far forward on him for my liking.
It’s one of the thorowgood atherstone gel type ones.

quite like the look of this...

feel a bit overwhelmed looking on the internet with all the choice and claims! don’t want to waste money that could be spent elsewhere on the money muncher.

for a less extreme shape test the harry dabbs waffle are not a bad start.
mine should have been ideal for prolite shape but he dragged it forwards and it gaped at the sides (that looks the same shape as the lemieux) so we went back to less extreme curves and ultimately with a pro choice instead.

Other horse has an ideal affinity F2 that is nice.

was looking at Harry dabbs after good feedback on previous post on here but thought shape wasn’t too far off what he’s wearing now. Maybe less is more. He’s got a deep girth and big shoulders.

I recently bought one of those lemieux gel tek ones for the girls, both of whom have a slightly challenging shape - one massive rib cage native and one with a forward girth groove. I really like it, it definitely gives bags of room for the shoulder/elbow if that's what you're after. And it's quite an interesting suede type leather texture, so I've found you can do it up quite loose.

If you do buy one I would order a size up though, it seems to come up a bit short.

I believe it's more to do with where your girth groove is - I've tried two anatomical girths on mine (Prolite & an Equiport leather version) and both gaped at the curved part underneath, they put all the pressure through the back inch or so of the girth and the rest of the front part wasn't actually in contact with him.

oh that’s no good - I’ve read on other threads about gaping as well.
I think it’s going be a case of trial and error :/

I have a Prolite for my beast of an IDx and it fits well and lays flat. I'm very happy with it!

also had positive feedback about prolite - I’m glad peoples opinions are affirming what I was thinking of going for. Mines a lump IDx too, so that’s good!

I used the prolite on my big cob and it made a noticeable difference to his way of going. He had a broad chest and big shoulders, and seemed much freer in the prolite. Never had any issues with it gaping but it was annoying to clean, I used to take tweezers to it to get all the fluff out the stitching!

good stuff. When they fit a horse's shape I think they work well. I have 2 very different shaped horses and they both wear a narrow gauge and it suits them both.

I know this is an old thread, but did you buy either the gel-tek or the prolite in the end? My Cob x has big shoulders, but quite a set back girth groove.
