Wow.
When it comes to 'having a healthy horse pts' the people arguing that it is not on never really seem to have a genuinely healthy horse in mind. Its always 'oh well sure it can't be relied upon to be led without kicking your head in' or 'well its too lame to do much but could still hack...' these are not truly healthy horses and as so recently demonstrated you do not know the full stories.
Immy, its great that you have such ideals, but as you say we don't live at one with nature and and I find it odd that you can be okay eating mass produced meat but not with horses being pts. You are right that we rarely see ill or injured animals in the wild; thats because they crawl into hiding to die slowly or are predated and eaten. As a horse lover I would rather mine died from a bullet than the prolonged or traumatic death in the wild.
Re income protection; it is sensible to try to futureproof yourself, but nobody should be naieve enough to believe that anything in life is guaranteed.
