Ive just read the thread about horseboxes and im wondering where you're all looking!! I am trying to sell mine and its not all that expensive (at least, i think - i'd be willing to be told otherwise) but i have had VERY little interest.

Where does everyone look for adverts? Maybe i'm not advertising in the right place...

(Im not trying to advertise my box by this, i just really need some ideas!)

Yes I found the same! I had a DAF & *finally* managed to sell it in August last year. It had 3 trips on eBay & was also on preloved & a couple of free sites that I managed to find. I originally wanted £14,500 for it (V reg 3 horse lorry with day living) & I think I ended up with £5k...

Honestly, I thought I was never going to sell it! It was v hard - I really didn't want to sell it at all cos it was a good lorry, then it added insult to injury that having got so upset about making 'the decision' that no ****er even wanted it!

Good luck!

I think its always the way. When I was selling my wagon the other year, I got hardly no interest for months, left it a few more months and dropped the price by a couple of grand and it sold to the second viewer. I lost so much money on it but when I decided to buy another, I couldnt find a thing. We travelled all over only to be dissapointed by overpriced flimsy builds which made me wonder why on earth my previous wagon wouldnt sell for less money. It took me months to find one. It seems if you want to sell you cant and if you want to buy you cant.

We sold ours last year- to the first viewer. Sold it through horsemart. It was a good wagon but old. I put up adverts at local places at half the price and had no interest. Husband put it in horsemart for double price and we were inundated. Guess prob price sensitive- upwards or downwards.

Hmm interesting, I am about to sell my 3.5
Upgrading to 7.5t
Had all kinds of prices, some I've thought to be very steep....eg g reg over 500k on clock, 12k......
Wish I'd seen yours for 5k sounds bargain...

Just done the opp to amandaco2, found my 3.5 tonner through a wanted ad as every 3.5 tonne I saw advertised was sold before I saw ad, got to stage was phoning up as soon as the likes of H&H dropped through letterbox but someone always got there first.

Was very realistic about selling mine and was very surprised how quick it went. Very basic 23 year old, high mileage, no fancy outside tack lockers, fridge or loo but clean, tidy, basic living, taxed and tested asked £1500 and was inundated, had 3 people lined up to view on my first day off work and more wanting to view but took it to a show that day so didnt think could fit any other viewings in, sold for cash to first person who viewed. I think people need to be realistic, I know of a box a year older than my old box, no tax or test, room for living but none actually fitted, last time it was driven had to be jump started then power steering didnt work and owner won't take less than £4k.

I am having the same trouble with my trailer, 2 yrs old in mint condition and people want to pay peanuts. Was offered £1500 for it today you can barely get a 15yr old Ifor for that!! If I can't sell it I will keep it as I won't give it away and it cost me nothing to keep.

ETA I currently have it on Horsemart, Ebay, preloved and the horse exchange. Not had much interested. So if anywhere has a better place to advertise it let me know :D

I think the mistake most folk make is not where they advertise its how they advertise !!! for instance few adverts have unladen weight and horse area dimensions !!!
then poor pictures or of uninportant parts , no description or a rambling one... also puts people off... ebay is good as you can put good pictures and discription , Horse & hound gets the right people.........

I often window shop for lorries (dreaming of the day!) & I am amazed at how bad a lot of ads are. You rarely see one that mentions payload & that would be my first question. A lot seem to emphasis how wonderful the living is - oak cupboards, microwave, satellite tv but mention nothing about how long to next plating or service/maintenance history, whether the cab tilts etc. There are often 3 or 4 pics of the living from various angles, but nothing that shows the condition of the body work/ramp/floor etc.

As someone who has recently (friday, eak! :D) put a deposit on one, I can tell you that horsemart is one of the places I looked the least as it's so cluttered with dealers adverts for trillions of new builds that you can buy on finance. H&H's search facility is also more trouble than it's worth.

I looked on horsequest and horse deals the most :)

I'm currently on the hunt, and also frustrated by lack of unladen weight/payload info on the ads. Hoping to find a basic box to take 3 x 15h/15.2hh but we don't need living, and have a budget of £2.5 - £3k..... worked out that we need an approx payload of 2.2T.
I've looked on Preloved, H&H, Ebay, Horsedeals, Horsexchange, Horsequest.

I find when I am looking (going to upgrade mine)

I think what counts is

age of the vehicle
Good pictures of the outside and inside
what facilities you have inside
what " outside.

No one will buy if pictures are dark and fuzzy

Agreed. I'm looking for a short 7.5t box as access is limited, so as well as weight, dimensions are important. People will put "compact", but not state actual length.

I look at Preloved, Trade-it, Friday Ad, ebay, BD Classifieds and Horsemart. Sometimes look at Horsequest but find it annoying with the refreshing thing it does as you scroll down. Don't find the search helpful on H&H or Horsedeals so tend to avoid, and also find they are all fairly expensive boxes being advertised. Sometimes have a browse at HorseGossip too.

I'm looking for one and can't seem to find anything in my budget! Ideally I'd like a 6 tonner (or compact 7.5tonner - no longer then 20ft) that will take two big horses, preferably G reg or newer. Doesn't need to be anything special but safe and easy to drive. Have a budget of around 4-5k but can't find anything to suit! I'd swap or Part ex it with my HB511 trailer if I could but no one seems interested in that either!!

I look on Horsemart and also horsebox mart. H&H is impossible to search on so gave up on that!!

Recently found our STOLEN lorry advertised on one of the well known sites so I would just say to all - BUYER BEWARE - make sure all the chassis numbers, VIN numbers, plating documents are right!!!!!! Do all the checks before you buy!

I am asking a really good fair price for my 3.5 its a brilliant lorry, excellent condition an really decent payload....had a lot of dreamers turn up saying they have seen one two yrs younger for less money- but with about 45k more miles an lots of extras like sinks etc in, which prob reduces payload to something rediculous....
Ah well...

We sold our J Reg 3.5tn last year with H&H and took just under the asking price. It went to I think the second person who looked and the first was still very keen but had to wait for something, can't really remember. We took the time to get her thoroughly cleaned inside and out and took good pictures. The ad was very to the point with all info needed included so people were not needing to ask much more. We had bought her a year before off of Ebay.
