Although I have no photos, and we have a distinct lack of matchy ;)

I watched my instructor school my recently backed 4-yo today, and he is looking fabulous. Given that he isn't really built or bred for dressage, he is looking so balanced right now.

He is doing all of his lateral work (shoulder in, counter shoulder in, haunches in/haunches out, and leg yielding) in trot now, and has recently started work on counter canter and also walk-canter-walk transitions.

When he had a bit of a strop today (yes, he's not perfect lol) you could just see the potential for a magnificent piaffe (fab "sit" with the haunch lol).

All I have to do is man up, grow a pair and actually ride him, rather than fannying about... though I'm now blaming my saddle for making me unbalanced all of the time, need to go back to the drawing board with that one :/)

It is still going to be awhile before I even think about competing him (since I'm having issues trotting a 20m circle), but I'm hoping I can get him out and about in spring, if I have conquered my cantering demons by then.

Sounds fab... What sort of saddle do you need/want/like? Xxx

As I really struggle with dressage saddles as I have a short thigh (learned from experience, sigh, which is why I'm having to sell my gorgeous Prestige Venus K), I'm now hankering after one of these: http://www.prestigeitaly.com/scheda.asp?menu=leisure&IDproduct=198&LAN=ENG

I'm going to be very naughty at the weekend and try my mares saddle (which is a Prestige Michel Robert) on him - I know it's too narrow, but 20 mins wont kill him, and I need to find out if the seat is better for me if I'm going to fork out another 3k on a saddle. I do need to speak with my Prestige dealer, as I'm not sure if they are adjustable enough for him. Bloody monster horse, he wasn't meant to grow this big! - though I suppose that is the risk you take when you buy a foal ;)

TBH I have no idea how he will do in competition, as he really isn't what the judges like over here (he's too heavy and the wrong proportions), but since we're going to do this for fun, who cares :P
