Well, after 343 days, my mare delivered her first foal safely on Tuesday. I used Future Sports Horses milk testing kit, which was brilliant. Mmmm, then things didn't quite go to plan. I watched her every half an hour, all through the night on Monday, my first night of foal watch. On Tuesday morning, she ate all her breakfast and hay and was showing no signs of delivery (no waxing, changing shape, or slackening muscles)... so I let her out in the field for some grass and left her happily grazing, and retired to my bed for some sleep. Half an hour later I received a panicked phone call, GET HERE NOW!!! I was there in 2 minutes and she was having him standing up in the field!!!!
Anyway, I caught him, and rubbed him down, and here he is....

He is by Jumbo, out of my special eventer, who is TB, with some King of Diamonds and Dallas blood.

Any ideas for a name please, the dam is called Spring??

Thanks very much. Obviously I am biased, but he's caught my eye, then again, he could be a beach donkey and I'd fall for him!

i think he'd make a lovely matched pair with my Jinni Jumbaby. they've even got the same left hind sock!
HUGE huge congrats, esp on just 1 night of foalwatch, get you!
i love his face marking, now that is a Harry Potteresque lightning bolt imho, so he's be Flash Harry if he was mine I think!
Girlracer, I met Jumbo last summer when I picked my mare up from Twemlows, he really is an awe-inspiring old gentleman now. there aren't many horses which impress me that much, i've been around some very good ones, but i really felt i was in the presence of greatness with him, and he was just lovely to spend some time with. :) :) :)

edited to add: did you see the thread i started a while ago asking for info about Skippy, Jumbo's sire? there were some great answers and a good pic too, i've saved the pic to my desktop, i think that's where my foal got her chestnut colour from.

Gorgeous foal, and stunning Mum, I love the sound of her breeding and her type. She's just my type of broodie! Perfect choice in Jumbo, he's a lovely srong looking little man, and amenable looking too being happily corralled into safety stable! Mum's keeping a good eye on him too by the looks of things! Huge congrats, and if your mare ever needs a home you can post them both accross the water to me ;)

He's certainly lively and has taken to galloping 30meter circles round Mum in the field. He's my first foal and is great fun. The've only being going out for a few hours each day, as it's been raining so much, but I will be gradually increasing turnout, until they are out 24/7 next month... so exciting

Lovely foal! I am VERY biased towards Jumbo babies as I worked for Carolyn Bates years ago when she was still in Bucks. Jumbo is without a doubt the nicest stallion I have worked with - an absolutely lovely chap to have around - and his babies seem to inherit his lovely temperament and drop dead gorgeous looks.

Lucky you...

You are certainly right about Jumbo babies - I know one of his eventer stallion sons (Med Night Mahout) very well, and he has the most lovely temperament. This seems to be passed on to subsequent generations too.

Gorgeous foal jaynec, and mum looks super!

I know Hootie too - haven't seen him for a good few years though!

I was once stopped by the police whilst riding his mum (bareback) from the field to the yard. He wanted to check that I felt I was completely under control, as she was insisting that cantering sideways was the only way to travel!
