Well, after 343 days, my mare delivered her first foal safely on Tuesday. I used Future Sports Horses milk testing kit, which was brilliant. Mmmm, then things didn't quite go to plan. I watched her every half an hour, all through the night on Monday, my first night of foal watch. On Tuesday morning, she ate all her breakfast and hay and was showing no signs of delivery (no waxing, changing shape, or slackening muscles)... so I let her out in the field for some grass and left her happily grazing, and retired to my bed for some sleep. Half an hour later I received a panicked phone call, GET HERE NOW!!! I was there in 2 minutes and she was having him standing up in the field!!!!
Anyway, I caught him, and rubbed him down, and here he is....
He is by Jumbo, out of my special eventer, who is TB, with some King of Diamonds and Dallas blood.
Coming down from the field, after being born there, to the safety of the stable
One of Mum eventing
Then some photos of the next day
Look at him go! One day old!!!
Photo overload!
Final one
Any ideas for a name please, the dam is called Spring??
