wow i used to have a Mulgrave Supreme daughter and we had three foals by Currant magic they were all good sorts i show jumped one for a while and he was very honest , sadly i had to give up and sell up .(not Foxfolly but Foxfollys OH)

firm I've not seen many other BH Gunner offspring about, have you? I can think of one I've seen eventing. CBs are vastly under-rated, so it would be good if we could convert you!

I had a Cb x welsh cob and he was a stubben B****d!
At home he would jump like a stag, but get him to a compitition and you would be exceptionally lucky to get over the 1st fence.
He also napped a lot.
He did have lovely pointed ears though!
Why oh why could he have not been more like the posters stunning chaps?

No never stubborn or nappy. I like a horse with an opinion. Before I bought a CB lots of people told me they were stubborn, in fact all mine are very nice and I have four. After I bought one every other person I met told me the best horse they every owned was a CB pure or part-bred.

I think that CB or CB crosses soon get the measure of you. The best one, William Hill, had won twice at novice level then I got eliminated at three events on the trot (pardon the pun) as he decided he didn't do ditches, so we had to re-establish where the line in the sand was drawn and there was no stopping him after that. Never take anything for granted with a CB, and maybe don't buy one if you're a soft touch!!

He also destroyed my confidence for the next 4 years!
I should have quit sooner but I loved him. And he definatly never did ditches, and never made an event horse. But there again he never had half of williams hills scope or talent!
Did however loose his nappiness and last time I caught up with him, made an excellant farm ride, fun horse hack.
I think sometimes like arabs they can be too clever for their own good.

I've come to this thread a bit late as didn't notice it, sorry. SSM knows Lincoln University's stallion, Prince and I can vouch for the fact that he has a temperament to die for; you can put him in a ring with ten other stallions and he will stand still and not bat an eyelid. Well, same with mares and geldings, really. He hunts, jumps, does dressage, hacks out, does his stallion duties and is handled by the students on a daily basis and is ridden by them in lessons. He is also shown in hand and ridden and does his bit for promoting the breed by being an exhibit at various shows, where he accepts all the fuss from the public as if it is his right! You can bet your life that being a University and health and safety conscious to the hilt, if there was any doubt about him, he wouldn't be there.
So all I can say is yes, they seem to be able to do a bit of everything to a competent level. BUT- and SSM will agree with me here - we do need to get them out and doing and show the public what they are really capable of.

OOoo Nicky, you know how I love your boys!!! It's Ross that makes me think that B would cross well with a CB or a part-bred, as she is also by a son of Ahorn (we've talked about this before). BUT did you know that we think that Berry (my coblet) is 1/2 CB?

There's definitely something about Berry that's CB, and I think it's his back end, and in that second photo his head looks uncannily like William's. So what's his character like, as that would be the most obvious way of telling if he's half CB or not (when they're an eighth CB you almost can't tell)?
Would you really want one like Ross??!! Maybe a smaller more stupid version would be a good idea.

His personality? Well - he's a git!! In the most lovable rogue way! He's good for the farrier and that's about it! He's a git to clip, for the dentist, his stomach COMPLETELY rules his head. If he's going left, he generally does! He's a saint in harness and was also pretty much saintly with the RDA Group riders he worked with for 10 years. Put an able bodied person on the end of the rope or on him though and hmmmmm look out!! He loves food too! He's ruddy strong, single minded, stroppy, cantancerous and LOVES galloping. He can be very spooky too. He doesn't see the point in Show Jumps, as he knows they come down - jumps fillers though, as they hurt! Did mention his love of food? He is the RUDEST horse if he hears a crackling packet - broke his headcollar at Royal Norfolk this year, because he thought Hector was getting more polos!!

Yep, he'll be Cleveland Bay then: no way can that many character traits be attributed to any other breed; they're always entertaining, one way or another.

He loves inviting himself to picnics - he esp. likes stealing tuna sandwiches.....

His expression in that first pic is the classic "not amused", and in the second one he is most definitely begging! Ross does that look when we're stood in the collecting ring - he hears the rustle of a polo packet, hones in on that person, then does the "omg I'm starving, look at how thin I am, pleeeeeease give me a polo!. Pathetic!

LMAO!! Berry DOES NOT SHARE!!!! Even Matilda is beginning to work that one out, though she throws all her toys out of the pram when he tries to savage her if she goes near him when eating - well he doesn't try and actually savage her, but I wouldn't blame him if he did!! She is SUCH a little madam and WILL NOT take no for an answer when she is trying to steal his food!

Re Lindon Principal - not surprised he so nce to handle he is by Borderfame Prince Charming and our first CB is by BPC out of Penryn Diploma she is such a lovely mare. A peach for the vet and the farrier - actually goes to sleep while she is being shod.
Re Snowynight. I bought my first horse for ride and drive in 1995 I still have him now 29 years young and still hacking out. I thought he was a CB part-bred which is why I became interested in the breed. He had one vice although perfect in harness he could buck for a gold medal. The yard had a club of people he had dumped. No one told me that when I returned to riding after about 20 years by the time he had chucked me off I was already in love.
The yard would not let anyone ride him so I bought him, as you do, so I could ride at my own risk. He stopped bucking and never bucked again until I took him to Gleneagles for some private jumping lessons. He just knew we were on CCTV.
His only other vice is he cannot be led on a head collar- a rope across the nose is essential. He went to livery one weekend some years ago I explained this to the yard manager, who passed this on to her male student. "He won't get away from me was the response". She watched with great amusement as a few minutes later my boy emerged from the barn at a spanking trot with male groom pulled along behind like a balloon on a piece of string.

I'm hoping to prove to the eventing world that they're not all useless, stubborn yaks as everyone seems to think. Anyway, I like a horse with a bit of personality.

I have thought about getting a CB mare before so I think I will in a couple of years time. I will have to breed one spotty part bred though!
Baydale I used BH Gunnar & just had a delighted phone call the other day to hear the resulting foal ( now 5) got a first & 64 % in her second proper test with many admirers
Gunnar is the sire of the advanced horse Private Collin who Sam Griffiths evented and there are quite a few other young ones eventing. I have also seen a couple of good jumpers by him but I can't recollect their names at the minute.

Baydale we need to dispell the myths. I too love personality and mine here in France have won hearts. My BHS instructor owned two CB/TB used for dressage and gave a wonderful display at East of England Show some years ago. She recently tracked down Palatec Lynx? now in Brittany, bred by Pat Joiner, he swept the board in competition at Stonelgh.. She tells me the stallion was so lovely her husband would have taken him home if he could have stolen him. She had one nappy part-bred but the nappiness did not come from the CB blood line.
My French trainer who schools my horses has always been impressed by my Shagya Arabs. My 6 yr old CB who was injured last year and has been brought back into work slowly, stopped him in his tracks, when he came to school last week. Now she is well she has stunning ground covering paces. (sounds a bit like that scene in Jurassic Park where the ground vibrates when T Rex gets loose)
