Another stirrup recommendation thread..

Just been reading an interesting thread about stirrup position and it reminded me I've been meaning to ask advice for ages re stirrups!

I've just been treated to a gorgeous new jump saddle, and so now in the market for some new stirrups.. and boy has the market really developed!! I feel totally clueless..

I don't have any criteria really.. other than I'm quite traditional and not a fan of coloured stirrups, so would prefer if they came in silver.. or maybe a plain colour. Also after something that gives a bit of support - my feet have always tended to turn out so if there's any miraculous stirrups out there that help with that, I'd be grateful!! (must look into the hip flexion advice from the other thread mentioned - if I were a horse, I'd have terrible confirmation :D )

Budget is flexible, but I'm not sure I can justify forking out hundreds of pounds for a small bit of metal..

If your foot turned out that was going to be my suggestion too
Though actually mine have improved just in the system 4s which I like a lot and have missed recently riding other peoples!
 
I have just purchased the Tech Venice stirrups and highly recommend them. They can come in silver and have a magnetic safety mechanism which is brilliant. They have a nice wide foot platform with good grip. I also have problems with my hips which means my legs rotate out, I'm finding the wider more secure footplate has helped a bit though. They were quite pricey (£200) but for the safety feature it was a no brainer!
 
I've recently bought some Flex-on which come in a huge range of colours but I am traditional and didn't go for the funky colours. They have a wide footbed with really good grip.

I am really pleased with them. My trainer thought I was slightly mad to pay so much for a pair of stirrups (£170) but rode in them last week when I was away on holiday and is now buying a pair for themselves.
 
Something with a wide foot bed.

Flexi stirrups are actually more damaging if you have bad ankles etc as they create instability and more movement.
Stirrups with a wide foot bed give you more to balance against.

This is coming from an arthritis and hypermobility sufferer.
 
See my ankles are the one bit of me that is 'stiff' relative to anything else. :)

I did ride in someone else's wide footbed ones recently and they seemed really comfy to start but for an extended period I struggled a bit.

I also find flexi stirrups disastrous(hypermobile all down my legs)
I find wide footbed stirrups so much more comfortable than traditional ones.

OP, try and borrow different kinds if you can, before committing. because what works for one person might be useless for the next.
Personally I like Jins, the tread is good and they are a nice weight being aluminium , you can get cheaper imitations.
 
I love my sprengers and the cheesegrater treads make them even more fabulous. When I ride in ordinary stirrups my ankles definitely notice the difference.

My son has tech Venice though and if you want safety stirrups they get my vote. They come in silver as well as coloured.

Free jumps are the best in my opinion. I bought mine from Burghley and I absolutely love them
 
I have Royal Rider flexi ones, nice wide footbed and some flex but not as much as Sprengers. Found they made a big difference after years in the traditional Sprengers ones.
I tried a horse in some Jins, didn't mind them until I landed after a jump and something snapped in my foot, possibly one of those things but never had an issue before or since with my foot so put me off a bit!
Recently been riding a horse in Lorenzini stirrups and really like them and how they help my lower leg position so tempted to get a pair or a copy.
