Thanks silverfire, two dentists checked the whole of his mouth but im still not convinced, he's acting like there's something in there but eating ok, luckily the vet will look next week and no, the drooling is new this year x

Did the dentists use a gag to hold his mouth open.

I had problems some years ago with a horse who I was told could not eat long feed such as hay, long grass.

I had the local dentist to him twice who said all was fine. I then moved to a different area and had a dentist out that used a gag - the other one didn't.

He found the problem straight away - a lower molar right at the back had a hook on it so long that it was digging into the upper jaw.

removed the hook - on both sides of the jaw and one happy horse later.

Thanks guys im on my phone on way to work so will reply later but i did ask for cushings test as that was my initial thought, v interesting re the copper though as during a google frenzy last year when he was lethargic then started fainting when his heart rate increased, copper deficiency was mentioned then so im going to get my vet onto that also, thanks x
He has collasped before then.As stated hear .so was it his heart rate this time.Have they done Ecg .I think best people to deal
with this is vets not us things are not adding up. Good Luck x

Thanks so much for the comments everyone, and for your concern. Unfortunately it would seem to be worse, and kind of what I expected after last year. Vet came, I wouldn't let him sedate him as it was quite late in the afternoon by the time he came and my boy wasn't really drooling but he said he'd have a feel round his mouth anyway and as I warned him (because I knew my boy would be worried), he went into a spasm and threatened to go down. His whole body went stiff and trembled and legs were buckling. Luckily he stayed up and came round. Vet is convinced, as I am, that its neurological but he's never seen anything like it, as had the two vets who saw him last year. He is going to speak to some people he knows in Newmarket and Liverpool and for now, horse is happy in his stable, ate his tea, but I don't know...its not looking great and Im prepared for the worst. Sad day.

So sorry your horse is unwell. I would also suggest seeing if he has had access to acorns or sycamore seeds which can cause seasonal poisoning.

You poor girl
so sorry a refferal is so wise. This sounds beyond anyone on hear.I certaintly would not like to give you any advice.Couple of things from experiance and things i have heard of would be.Neurological problems can run with chushings as at the end of the day the tumer grows and can burst hence the treatment we give them to helpcontroll it.even then there are no guarentees Also medication to avoid stress cortisol levels.Equine motor neurone disease.Narcolepsey.Sycamores can be bad news.
Honestly it could be anything the Equine hospital is your best bet . Good luck i do hope every thing turns out well for you x

Hi, for all of you who responded with great advice, sad news Im afraid. My boy was bright and happy but on Tuesday he had a collapse in his stable, came over backwards and banged his head, when I got there after the text from the yard groom he was stood with his tongue out again. He perked up when he saw me and Wednesday was fine but I made the hardest decision I'll ever have to make and said goodbye yesterday afternoon after he'd had a lovely morning in the sun, he fell asleep in my arms and I woke this morning for the first time in 20 years with a feeling of utter despair. I know it'll pass and I know I did the best for him but it hurts like hell. Run free my crazy welshie....

(((((HUGS))))) There are no words that can express the sadness we feel when we lose a treasured friend.

Remember all the wonderful times you had together and they will help ease you through the grief you are feeling.

Thank you, Im totally broken, I know I did my best for him but he was my baby and I wish I could've helped him more, just awful, all I feel is hurt and guilt but I suppose that's normal.
