Disclaimer. I paid full price and have no connection with the company.

Sixteen months ago I bought a TB with seedy toe under his shoe. I treated it with hydrogen peroxide, which has always worked for me before. It didn't this time. I cut it out as far as I dared without a farrier, and there were still two tiny black spots visible. I hoped I'd taken enough away to kill it with peroxide this time. No such luck.

I bought a specialist hoof bleach, Cleantrax and used it every two weeks for eight weeks. Still there.

So I bought Red Horse Hoof Stuff, a mix of fibres, manuka honey and zinc paste. It stuck in the holes brilliantly and I changed it once a week, twice as it got shallower and began to fall out. And millimeter by millimeter the two holes got shallower, and today the last of it wore off on the road.

I've never had such a problem with deep seated white line disease. 10/10 for Red Horse Hoof Stuff.

I used the red horse sole cleanse when I took Ms shoes off as he had seedy toe in one foot. The infection was gone in about 6 weeks and the hole disappeared after about 8 or 9 weeks and hasn't returned.

I used the hoof stuff for thrush and it cleared it up really quickly, great stuff

Love their stuff. I reccommended Field Paste to a lady at my last yard whose pony appeared to have canker. It wasn't clearing up at all and they were starting to discuss PTS. I had half a tub of Field Paste so I just gave it to them. Cleared up the canker/dreadful thrush and the pony lives on!

Got a brand new tub of Field Paste and a bunch of flowers as a thank you.

Hoof Stuff is brilliant for deep grooves in the frog and abscess holes.

I have to be honest I didn't actually expect it to work... they'd tried everything including the vet cutting it away... and from what I'd read about canker it's basically impossible to shift. So I was very pleased when it did and the owners even more so!

I'm still slightly hesitant to say it was canker... just because it did clear up, makes me wonder if it was just bad thrush. But I did hear both the vet and an experienced farrier say it was canker and a vet wouldn't try and cut away thrush would they?

Anyway. Sorry, diverting the thread a little. There's some fairly sorry looking feet coming out of winter right here that are going to be getting a few weeks of intense Red Horsing as of now. Hopefully it'll work it's usual magic.

Canker looks like little fingers a lot of the time. I was interested when I researched it to find theres a probable connection with bovine papilloma, the sarcoid causing virus.

In my horse, who was riddled with sarcoids, field paste controlled it well but just stopped short of curing it.

As far as I'm aware ( no longer at the yard) the owner now uses it continuously as a preventative... so it may well still be lurking but being controlled.

Love love love Red Horse products, use them for everything - my new favourite product is the ear balm - got it as a freebie at YHL when I bought a hoof care pack - put my horse out 24/7 due to yard lockdown and didn't want to be faffing with masks and he always loses them anyway so put some of the ear balm when he first went out in and have been keeping it topped up - he was the only one not bothered by the black flies in the field when I saw him today. 5*

I love Red Horse products too. Their Sole Cleanse clears up thrush in no time. Honey Heal is quite frankly amazing. I have even got my yard owner using their products!

I use an awful lot of their products including their sweet oil which makes tails super shiny, they sent me a free hand wash with my recent order which I thought was a really nice touch

I used to buy direct from Red Horse, which whilst they offer a speedy and efficient service, you get charged a hefty delivery charge (£8ish?) no matter how much you order. Various other suppliers stock Red Horse products now, and I buy from them instead if I can get a big enough order together to get free delivery, which I usually can without trying very hard... Most recently I used Urban Horse.

YCBM ...or anyone else.....my farrier recommended the sole cleanse and I had good results. On the back of that I purchased the Artimud, but found it wouldn't stay put......this was on deep clay. Is the field paste any better? Having said all that, we are now drying out - land wise - so could try the artimud again. Any thoughts anyone?

Sole cleanse or field paste for that. Hoof stuff if you have holes deep enough to hold it.

.

Depends on your frog clefts, occasionally we end up with a deep/tight situation where hoof stuff has stuck in well enough.

GGD I've not used artimud and only mum has used the field paste but it seemed to survive our clay. - I mostly got it because I was feeling guilty about her having to do everything and at least it would stay on for a bit.

This thread made me think today. Cobby had her shoes removed 10 days ago. She is doing alright bit wondered if red horse would have anything I can use to help (will look on the website but would be interested in recommendations) so what would help strengthen the hooves? And she has also had mild thrush which I've been treating with iodine and it's pretty much all gone. However she does have really deep grooves around her frogs which keep getting compacted with gravel/mud/stones as we have to walk through a stream to get to the field. This must be rather uncomfortable, and means her hooves stay wet for quite a while. Any thoughts to help with this? I have some 'hoof stuff' already so may give that a go to fill in the grooves.

I have just ordered some ear balm for B and some Stronghorn for DP’s feet. I have tried everything to improve his soles and both vet and Farrier agree it’s not going to happen so will try an external solution rather than an internal one. After reading the reviews I’m very hopeful it will help and if it doesn’t at least I’ve tried.
