Hey guys, my pony gets lots of dandruff at the top of his tail (around the dock) so when I wash it I scrub really hard to get most of the dandruff out, and it works (to an extent;)). He doesn't have very sensitive skin so I can usually use whichever shampoo I want. Normally I just use your bog standard horse shampoo but I was wondering if any of you have ever seen or used any horse shampoos that are anti-dandruff?
I know Carr &day & martin do an medicated shampoo, do you thick that would do the job? Or else someone's said to me about using a horse tea tree shampoo- would this work for dandruff?
Of course I'll do a test patch first so I'm quite happy to use a human anti dandruff like head & shoulders....any experience with human anti dandruff shampoos on horses- if so which one did you use?
Thanks xx

I haven't tried this, but I would imagine humans are at least as sensitive as horses, so a dandruff shampoo may well be ok. Docs tend to prescribe coal tar shampoo for really bad human cases, but coal tar shampoo is really harsh and probably not a good idea!

I've used Nizoral (needs to be asked for at a pharmacist) and guinea pigs with ringworm ok so I suspect it would work for horses - would do a patch test first.

My favourite itchy, scurfy skin shampoo of all time is Gorgeous Guineas manuka and neem shampoo. I use it all the time for me and it cleared up Bree, my friesian's, scurfy mane and feathers in one shampoo. But it ain't cheap. http://www.gorgeousguineas.com/shampoos.html
