This ought to be posted in the vet forum but Tack Room has more traffic. I’m wondering if anyone has any solutions to this current problem I have…mare had a keratoma removed end of January. No hoof wall removed as it was accessed through the sole. Mare has a shoe and metal plate since January which held dressings in place and kept the regenerating sole clean. A month ago we stopped dressing and she only had plate on all was great until last week when the regenerating tissue “ ballooned” instead of being flat so vet trimmed excess away. Farrier came and trimmed as the growth of hoof was phenomenal.
The problem is, we think, the foot is hot and sweaty with not enough airflow to dry and scab up the wound site so can anyone think of a way to keep the foot clean/protect the wound but allow airflow. The next step is shoe with a leather pad but we still think that will be sweaty. One suggestion has been Ames tape …I was hoping I’d be transitioning to turn out at this point, sadly not.
Anyway if anyone has any ideas I’d gratefully receive them.
