About 3 days ago my mare has started doing something very odd. When ever she sees me heading to her field she pees! It isn't a normal pee and I don't think it is a mare is season squirt.. Nothing else has changed. She isn't displaying any other new behaviours.

I spent this morning in the field picking up dung and kept and eye on her and she seems fine, nothing wrong with her.

I might be imagining it, but am sure I am not..

Anyone else ever had a mare do this? anyone understand this behaviour?

When at a show Ellie ALWAYS pees before going into the ring/arena. In face she won't move properly until she's been

I've put it down to one of her 'quirks'

My mare always pees when she sees that I have tack with me. We quite often go for mega-long hacks and she won't pee whilst riding (she's funny like that) so always goes before we leave.

Very sensible really!

My mare does this!! Most evenings when I go to get her in she wees, most mornings when she sees me she wees. She's also started to pretend to wee on the way to her stable so it takes me hours to get her in bcos she keeps stopping!
There's absolutely nothing wrong with her, she's just a cow bag of a mare who wants longer in the field!!

I've just put it down to mares being generally bizarre!!

I trained my mare to wee on command into a bucket (saves on bedding!!) and the reward was a haynet. As a result, she often stops after just a couple of mouthfuls, or even as she is coming up from the field, and has a wee. She also sneakily uses it to hurry me up if I am slow bringing her a net. It seems that mares are very shy about doing it out on rides - in over 10 years mine only stopped twice and it was obvious she wasn't too pleased with herself. At least I could be sure she went before we spent all day out at a show. People always laugh when they see me heading behind with a bucket, but it also allows me to monitor what comes out (for medical reasons) and my horse knows what a good girl she is for doing it and glows with pride after!
