Any model horse enthusiasts here? How much would this be worth?

Will upload pictures when i can, but for now wil have to describe..
I am wanting to sell a row of homemade stables (my grandad made them with me years ago- hes very skilled) they are 'paddock pal' size, fit schleich style models.
Made from wood with etched in panels, there are 4 large stables all with double hinged working doors that are very life-like and worked bolt locks on both upper and lower doors. The doors also have chew guards ! on each stable there is a window with vertical bars. Inside they are partitioned by a sloping partition with bars in the upper section, based on real stables. I think i actually put rubber matting in too ! There is a 'tack room' which is just a large room on the side and round the back behind the tack room there is a toilet with a little dolls house toilet in it. The floor is 'concrete look'

I do love it and Its a shame to sell it but its just under my bed collecting dust now, never really played with it, i was a strange child and looked after my toys well! Oh and the roof is a removable lid, it slopes to the back like a real stable block and has an overhang roof.

PS. what is the best way to sell it?

Sounds incredible :)

I haven't been involved in the model horse scene since I was a teenager, and that was before the internet took off. I'm guessing EBay, or here: http://www.modelhorsesalespages.com/

Probably worth spending some time rootling around on model horse sites so that you get the right buzzwords (ie is the stable the right size for classic or Little Bit size models).

Here's something that sounds similar: http://www.modelhorsesalespages.com/view.asp?id=721713

Really a shame to see it go as I love it bits, especially as it was handcrafted by my grandad! but it's retreated to under my bed and its a bigger shame to have it hiding away doing nothing.
As for price i really don't know, obviously don't want to give it away as it is lovely peice. If anybody would like to pm an offer at all then they are more than welcome while i mull it over !!

I think that is fab... makes me want to play with it!!

As for price, well, no real idea, someone will buy it for the price they are willing to pay I guess!
Hope it goes to a lovely home.

Keep it. You will regret it forever if you sell as it must hold so many memories. The market value will, in no way, reflect the sentimental value or the hours spent with your Grandad.

It's gorgeous and very unique.

Ditto Ladyinred! It's amazing and there will be plenty of people out there willing to buy it but I really think you will regret it if you sell it!

It would be a shame to sell it but it is being wasted, i will see what prices i get offered and see if it is worth letting it go, torn between keeping it because its really nice, or giving it another lease of life where it can do other than hide away under my bed !!

I also have another single stable i will sell, another one i made with my grandad- looks very similar but has fitted electric circuit so it has a light bulb on the outside and inside, with flicky switches on the inside to operate and a battery pack tucked into a wooden box at the back.

Keep it!!

It holds sentimental value as ladyinred said!
If its me I would keep it, it's absolutely beautiful and your grandad has made an excellent job,
If you really do have to sell it please dont let it go cheap !

Can you not keep it for any future children you have? I sold a massive collection of julip horses, stables and a home made lorry a few years back, I now wish I'd kept it!

I second that. I collected Anna and Happytime which I loved, and I really regret not keeping it all ... my daughters would love it. I tried to buy some more but it's silly money on ebay.

have found other stable, could do with a touch up as glue is a bit messy and wiring is a bit falling down but would be touched up in 20 mins so i will do that before i sell it. will show you pics of that one.

Love it!

I too wish I still had my old toys for my children to play with, especially since I was forced into buying someone else's (inferior) collection for my daughter at a 2nd hand tack sale a couple of weeks ago!

I may have a word with my grandad and see if we could make any more to sell on.. worth considering- could do a make to order type thing :p good timing for christmas !

I know when I was younger i'd get so bloomin frustrated that I couldnt buy any model stables or model stuff that didnt look like a cheap plastic barbie imitation without any realistic features.. because i was clearly deprived before i bought my own real life-size horse and had to have everything real life standard ! (i made bridles out of scooby strings so they didnt have the bit on the noseband stupid looking design.. lol !!)

Echo what others have said. It's sentimental value is far higher than retail value. Even without sentimental value, I would want at least £1000 for it because of all the hours of work put in. I expect on ebay you would be lucky to get £100, though coming up to Christmas, you never know! You could always list it as buy it now or best offer, or auction with a reserve. It's fabulous and I would have loved it as a child.

It doesnt hold any real value for model horse collectors at all. They collect models, either rare and old Breyers or customised models. They simply have no need of stables etc, other than a back drop for photos. That said, its LOVELY! I am in the process of making something similar with my niece. We even have a Derby bank set up in the 'field' :D

Your best bet is the doll house market, esp as they appear to be Schleichs in the stables, which puts it pretty much in the right scale. Theres also the toy market, but I have bought bits and pieces, generally for pennies.

Feel free to PM me if you need more info, I'm fairly active on the model horse scene, admittedly as a customiser of models, but I keep up to date with the rest of it :)

It's absolutely stunning but I think you'll regret it so much if you sell it. I got rid of all my horse toys when I was a teenager and I've regretted it ever since xx
