Any news on the Burghley fallers???

where did Marie fall? really hope they're both okay.
must admit, that horse was looking pretty shell-shocked and i am amazed she didn't stop.
after the total farce when Lucinda Fredericks had to be stopped by the crowd 2 years ago (and i was standing at that fence), i'll believe anything. even experienced fence judges do very weird things in the heat of the moment, i've heard and witnessed it a few times.

Marie fell at the big white railing fence (number 23 ish I think) - a few years ago it was where the train was.
she just didn't seem to have the impulsion and it smacked into it, the bottom rail gave way and then they both sort of cartwheeled over it and landed hard. It was awful.
They both walked away after a few minutes but it was the horror of how close it came to being truely horrific when they hadn't stopped the next rider. They were all very lucky but I was amazed how lax the fence judges were. They were all screaming down the radios at each other afterwards.

I haven't spoken to M&M yet, Marie can't be too bad or Matt wouldn't have gone xc. I need to speak to Marie today about something else so will post any news. Hate to say it but I agree re pulling up - it banked the two dairy mound fences and didn't look at all happy

Guess it's difficult to make rational decisions when your blood is up and adrenaline flowing.

We're fine HJ, just I'm a bit battered and stiff. Connie is 100% only one little scratch. Very sound and went galloping round her field this afternoon! I on the other hand am a little stiffer! Not really got any war wounds tho apart from a few scratches.

Just been watching my round on the DVD we get, over and over in slow mo. Connie had been flying foot perfect and hadn't touched a thing till that evil mushroom, the explanation is the holding ground and the fact she may have mis read it, other than that I shrug my shoulders. A few people had been muttering about it being a dangerous fence and when I went for a medical check over they thought that they should have least put some take off stones down. Horses like the ones that fell are not clumsy horses in fact quite the opposite. MW horse is exceptionally careful as is the Italian horse. My mare is soooo careful too.

I am over the moon with her tho, she was truly awesome!!

i dont know you but glad you and your horse are ok there where some narsty falls !!!!

I was just coming on to post about Marie Ryan and find out what happened. It looked very sticky early on and i was suprised she didn't pull up. I heard that she'd fallen but didn't know where, glad she's ok.
I think that big white fence is pinned, hence it coming down and by the sounds of it lucky it did.
I'd be keen to hear updates of how any fallers and their horses are and hope everyones ok.
Agree with everyone re evil muchroom!!!

God Laura when you see those pics I dont know how you've managed to come otu with no more than bruises!! Glad all ok and connie looked fab!!!

Agree, some of those pics are quite horrific!!!

So glad you're both ok!! Bet poor Connie has a stiff neck, it was bent round at a horrid angle!!

Not stiff at all! Can't believe it, she is made of rubber that little mare..... she can rear, bite, roll, gallop, buck and flex her neck very fully!! Unlike me.....

Funnily enough the fall looks alot worse than it felt. It happened so quick and we were up so quick, I didn't even realise Con had fallen till I saw she was covered in mud...

Bless her, I think horses are alot more resiliant/tougher then we give them credit for.

Probably did look worse then it felt as it all happens to quickly. Very glad she is ok, she is obviously very special to you

Glad your aiming at Badders, im planning on going for all 4 days (depending on when my mare decides to foal!) so will be cheering you on again
grin.gif

glad you and connie are ok. hope your aches and pains go away soon, did you take some arnica?
the scariest one i thought,, was the leaf pit, what was it like leaping into nothing? what brave horses they all are, oh and the riders of course.
good luck for your next comp.

I think they must be!! Altho i'm convinced that mare bends in ways others don't. You only have to watch her dressage party tricks to see that! She bends her legs and neck into all sorts of shapes!! Minx.

Yeah that kind of fall always looks so horrific, it honestly didn't feel like that for me. I never even had the 'oh s**t' moment.

Badders would be nice, but we'll decide more firmly nearer the time! You know what horses are like!

Just spoke to Marie, she's fine, bit stiff, and Sparrow Hall likewise - couple of grazes. Didn't go into whys and wherefores of the fall. Glad they're both ok anyway, onwards and upwards

I can imagine! She seems an out and out jumping machine though

Probably best not to plan to far ahead with horses! Plans are always a killer! Fingers crossed you do get there though

TD, just clarify something for me, I heard the commentary say that it was Sparrow Halls first 4* but i'm sure i've seen him at Badminton?

ElleSJ, so glad you and your gorgeous mare are ok, I missed you going on the telly as I was sitting with my sick brother in hospital but I looked at the pictures and all I can say is OUCH!!!
crazy.gif
Up until that point you said you had a fab round, so here's looking forward to you getting to Badders or Burghley next year
laugh.gif

She's entered him for Badminton/Burghley a couple of times, once withdrew before XC when it was very wet and she'd been round once on Penny Royal, once he was spun at the first vet's inspection
frown.gif
He had time off when she had Milly, then his 4* qualification had lapsed and its taken time to get it back. So you are right, but so is the commentator, it's the first time he's started a 4* XC.

There's a fab photo of you over the Waterloo Rails on Eventing Worldwide; Connie's ears have gone a bit sideways
laugh.gif
but she is so tidy and it is a huge fence.

I DEFINITELY think you should get photos of your fall frame by frame Laura and frame them in a sequence... would look absolutely awesome on your wall! That's what I would do... along with spending a fortune on lots of nice jumping ones too of course!

I have had news from a very good source, that sadly, Philip Dutton's horse Woodburn has broken down very badly
frown.gif
which is why he was withdrawn before showjumping.

I've seen the horse several times, and was extremely impressed with him when I saw him at the Rolex. It's very, very bad news about a senstional horse.

yeah we already heard that, though i dont know how badly but enough for them to withdraw it saturday night. they were never going to even try to present. But you cant tell with these things til they are properly scanned and usually they like to leave them a few days for the swelling to settle down before they have a good look so it may not be as bad as they think. shame tho.
