Any preference Mare or Gelding

I find geldings more predictable and mares more complex!

Everytime I have had a mare I always say I would never have another but the last 3 horses I've had have been mares!, 1 - was totally moody and unaffectionate, the 2nd - was very reliable and consistent you knew what you were going to get, the current one is affectionate loves hugs, stroppy, moody, opinionated but has so much potential just have to keep her in line all the time especially as shes only just turned 5 so very testing!

And saying is 'tell a gelding, ask a mare- but ALWAYS discuss it with a stallion'!

wooops got that mixed up then :o i still have pretty interesting discussions with my mare whether or not she should do a leg yield  it took us 1 hour to establish the fact that yes she can do them and no they're not that hard :D (i knew se could do them, she just didnt want to)

I always said i would never have a mare due to seasons, mood swings etc ... But i now have the most sweetest mare EVER. Shes like a loveable dog :p Always happy, no mood swings .. I cant even tell when shes in season shes so horizontal!! Wouldnt swap her for the world.

Agree.

Horizontal and nothing more is my mare, but it does depend on there breed i reckon too!

I love my laid back gelding and now looking for another horse my sister who has a mare said it doesnt matter.

I think it does her characterful mare bossed my old boy around and then we had squirty mare/stroppy mare..I then went to view a mare who was snorting at a dog.

I have a dog who my sisters mare will chase my gelding wont...sisters answer well in the wild a mare would protect her young, just that we knocked the instincts out of them!!

So you see a bias already!

So I start thinking gelding gelding and am pleased if what I am viewing is a gelding!

Then riding lesson last week the instructor states"oh she is in season"(I am secretly thinking oh great but just ignore the wild looks at the horse eating hedges around the riding school)!!! I just got on with it!

BUT thought mares too much hormones! And the riding instructor has reinforced my view. It should be a gelding again next time?????????????
