Just thought I'd ask and what you think of them!
I'll start: I've got a welsh D (registered as a part bred due to some unknowns on her Dams side but she looks all welsh sooo..) and I think shes the funniest, cheekiest horse I know! Love her to bits and she does all sorts :)
Also, anybody have a welsh cross thoroughbred? Thinking of having a foaly out of her to a tb in a few years and wanted opinions on the cross? Thats if shes not in foal to the miniature stallion she was in the field with recently; where theres a will theres a way...

:D

ive got a welsh sec d whos rising 3. he's only reg part bred as his sire wasnt registered. he's my pride and joy and love him to bits. cant wait to start backing him next year.

This is his ad picture :D

Will take more tomorrow after he has had a bath :D

Tad different from Ollie though???

I've got a welsh x arab x sports horse. Typical welsh cob really, just a bit less cobby. Over-sensitive Drama Queen comes to mind  Never naughty, just sometimes very silly and sharp.

Hmm. I don't like them at all. Though I have a welsh D that said. She was my pony of a lifetime and will be with me till she's old and knackered bless her. She's out on loan to a girl atm for the next couple of years though :)

Had a part bred welsh weanling....jumped out it's field and closed the flipping m4 down one saturday afternoon the other month! Lucky sod survived and no one was hurt thank god.

Have one WPB mare ready to drop any night now...she's actually very sweet though not had much handling.

And also have a section A with a WPB foal at foot too, she's very pretty [if you're into them] but I'm in love with her foal, he's a darling!!! He's part hairy cob though, which would be why!!! ;)

I've got 3 Registered Part Breds :-

Welsh x WB and 2 Welsh x TB

They are all totally different characters although all have that cheeky but reliable temperaments.

1 is a 10 year old mare who has to be fair had a pretty turbulent life before she came to me 4 years ago so she has many demons and devils lurking after her so she's very skittish, jumpy and a little hot headed (some may say more like a TB) I put her in foal to a Welsh D stallion and the foal is the other Welsh x TB, she is taking more after her father, absolutely no skittishness, not afraid of anything, although a little bulshy that may just be her age (9 months) but has tons and tons of character and I think will make a lovely mature mare.

Your horse is gorgeous btw :)

Ahh I see :)
Thankyou! :D I'm hoping if all goes well she'd have a pretty baby too :p

Well, as a kid i had a welsh C on loan, he was lovely. We later got a Welsh D for my mum - he was a g*t! I think he was a rig he was so aggressive to other horses, he was also terrifed of anything larger than a transit van. He had a tendency to leg it and one time was involved in an accident where another horse sadly was killed when they all bolted. We sold him to a home where he was used on working livery in the school and that actually suited him down to the ground, flatwork was what he did best and in a 'safe' place (ie no vehicles).

I have a 14.2hh welsh x (TB probably although suspect some trotter or something there), got him when I was 16 and he was 7, he is now 24 and is still a neurotic weirdo! He looks the part for sure and was sold as a jumping pony and had a jumping record. However, his brain just cannot cope with competing and hence we never sold him as he had already been passed round loads before we got him and just knew that's what'd happen again. So, I still have him!

He is a funny little soul and of course I know him inside out know but he still has flip outs and 'moments' and, well put it this way I wouldn't actively ever seek out to buy a welsh or welsh x again I'm afraid. Now, Connie x TB - would DEFINITELY buy one of those again!!! :-)

I've got a welshxtb gelding and planning on getting a welshxtb filly next year as my next riding horse. I just love the wpb and think they are so versatile, if a bit quirky! I personally prefer the wpb out of a tb mare not out of a welsh mare- and I know many people who feel the same way, having said that though they are still a fantastic breed, not that I'm bias...:D

I have a welsh x Arab 14.2hh pony mare. Shes fantastic. Has the flighty ways and the stamina of the Arab and the stubbornness of the welsh :D. In the summer she look all Arab in the winter she looks all welsh. Bless her.

Yes I have a 2 year old, had him since he was 5 months old, he's the sanest easiest horse I've ever known, he takes everything in his stride, has a cheeky grin (by that I mean he curls his top lip up at the drop of a hat!!) follows you everywhere, even at his first show as a yearling nothing phased him, AND he got 2 x 2nd place rossettes in the in hand classes he entered! I keep waiting for him to actually act like a 2 year old and not a 10 year old!! Even when he wore a rug for the first time he just trotted out into the field and you could almost see him say 'see I've got one too now!!! Don't i look fab in it!!' He is unfortunately for sale, if he'd stay at the current 14.2/3 i could be tempted to keep him for my children! But unfortunately he has another 2 years of growth to do!

My lad is welsh D x irish x appaloosa (yes a bit of a mix, but has resulted in a stunning and easy natured horse, so who's to say it's wrong!!) but a tb x welsh is a common cross to gain something more versatile in the competition world and I've known some damn good horses that are that cross.

I love welshes they are my favourite I have a c mare and an a mare plus a dx gelding, seriously thinking about getting a c stallion at some point in future to breed with my mares.

I'm a bit of a welshie x tb fan! My old lad was a c x tb and have a d x tb atm. I dont know why I have them tbh, they are pains in the bums when young but when you crack em they are fantastically talented and huge characters.

food for thought :p
I only compete occasionally and for fun, mainly i jump at home and ride leisurely :) But i'm sure that's fine for a welshxtb depends what they're raised to do..?
My welsh has a diamond of a temperament and hopefully with a calm sire the resulting foaly wouldn't be too wild! :p

definitely makes me feel more positive about the cross :D
i didn't get on with my welsh for at least the first year and a half maybe two she was a pain in the bum(had her six years this july, she's my first pony and like a bad penny whenever we tried to sell she just came back so i just had to stick with it!) and then after a few lessons and finally working out what makes her tick we get on well and i'd never want to part ways with her!
the welshies really do teach you how to ride :)
