Anybody got a Welsh or a Welsh part bred?

I think Welshies have the biggest personalities of all. My last horse was a Welsh D, he was a handful at times, but wow what a horse. I sold him a couple of years ago and the yard still feels empty without him. My biggest selling-regret! Would definately have another.

Some lovely purebreds and partbreds on here :)

We have a few generations of our D family. We have granny who is 30 and by the lovely Hewid Cardi, we did have her daughter, but the lovely ol lady passed away in December, she was by E Victor, very sad...then we have two of her children, and two grandchildren.

my main cob girl is by thorneyside the boss and her sister is by Pantlleinau trysor, the two of the gen after that are by tregare cymro and fronarth ceredig.

what I ll say about them is that they are very intelligent, great thinkers, fiercely loyal once you have they're trust. :)

I own a Welsh D through and through :') (except my clipping and scissor obsession makes him look like a little sports pony!) and I can honestly say he is such a fantastic horse - best of luck if you're interested in a Welsh X TB - I'm sure it would be amazing!! But loads of people worry that a pure native isn't "up to the job" but I have my 14.1hh doing dressage, aff BSJA, aff BE, hunter trials, Ponies uK, team chase... the lot! They're super stars and so so talented! Best of luck with your ponies!! xxx

we joke that my girl is a bad penny...whenever we tried to get rid she always came back! it's probably cause it had no choice but to have her and two years later we finally "clicked" :p
definitely wouldnt want to see her go now :)

I have 3, 1 is a Welsh x Caspian, 1 is a Welsh A x Connie we think and 1 is pure section C. All 3 are amazing ponies. very entertaining, very clever and quick to learn. Love them. :)

We have a 22 year old Sec A. He is a complete superstar and we love him, in the last year he has taken my daughter off the lead rein to be now confidently competing at 2ft 3. We would like to have a go at some showing this year, probably M&Ms and definately veteran classes as people are always surprised at his age! maybe also some mini working hunter classes but not sure...
Jeff can be very cheeky to handle and will take the mickey at times, also if P gets too flappy with her legs and annoys him he will throw in a buck but i cant say i blame him!

Here he is with my daughter having just come 2nd out of the whole of her section at PC camp last year in the one day event. It was the first time she had competed off the lead rein and Jeff really looked after her. Very proud moment!

i doooo :D i have a welsh sec D mare and she is a superstar!!! wouldnt have anything else ever!! i think they're sooo much fun and they have the biggest personalities ever :D shes like my best friend and totally on my wave length even if she is a drama queen half the time hehe xx

I have a welsh x Arab 14.2hh pony mare. Shes fantastic. Has the flighty ways and the stamina of the Arab and the stubbornness of the welsh :D. In the summer she look all Arab in the winter she looks all welsh. Bless her.

So do I :) Except mine is a gelding! I'd describe him exactly the same.

I love him to bits, but not sure I would have that cross again. On a bad day when he decides to be flighty, sharp. strong and stubborn it can be hard work!! But he is a fab alrounder, and touch wood has never been injured or ill!

:rolleyes::rolleyes: i have a colt who is approaching 1.
He is an absolute sod!! he's very clever, cheeky and bold. At the same time he's very likeable and is always the first one to come over and say hello/mug people.

Very sharp to ride and can be very spooky. On the plus side fab with traffic - milk tankers, tractors, bridges over ring road etc.
Has a cracking jump and is doing well at dressage.

One the ground a really bolshy madam and would walk all over you given half the chance, can also be a bugger to catch but the rudeness is down to her handling. If I look after her for the owner she is good as gold as she knows to respect me as I'm kind but firm with her.

sounds exactly like my PBA...I thank her for teaching me stickability!!!!
Thanks xxx

I have!!

First two are my rising 2 year old filly (Sec D x TB) the last pic is the same cross but a colt who would have been 3 but sadly died from grass sickness in his new home.

They are intelligent, a bit quirky but a fantastic cross!!

I have a welsh D x TB mare. I love her to bits. She has taken me eventing, xc, WH, SJ , dressage (kinda!) and everything inbetween. She is now 15, known her all her life but had her since she was 4. Broke and backed her myself and the rest they say is history.
She has her own mind, can be bolshy, hates the vet, and mane pulling so I don't bother, can be moody with the farrier, dislikes tying up and is very spooky out hacking or when she gets her own way attempting dresage. BUT, she is very good in traffic, loves her jumping and is a dream to 'do' at events. I love riding her, and if I could I'd have her clone in a heart beat.

(might have got carried away there!)

I have!! He is Welsh (dad) x Irish TB (mum), looks like a TB from the front and a cob from the side!! He is only 2 and goes through stages of looking gorgeous or downright ugly. He is a complete sweetie, loves to be groomed and messed with, not the sharpest tool in the box at home, but get him outside the gate and his eyes are on stalks, hoping this matures into "showmanship"!!! :D;) BTW must not miss out the sec a mare, ultra pretty x

I have :)! A 17 year old D. He's quirky and would drive most people mad, but I love him to bits :) :)

lol I'll stop now..

I have three Welsh Part-breds. They're affectionate, quirky, argumentative but I love all three of mine. One is a Welsh D x TB and is amazing to ride, ultra safe but can be an absolute nightmare on the ground due to past mistreatment.

I have! 3/4 Section D and 1/4 Appaloosa, homebred out of our Sec D x Appaloosa mare. Bold as brass, in your face, sometimes bargy, great flashy trot with lots of knee and hock action, been very easy to back, great in traffic. Oh, and a people lover, she'll leave any other horse to be with a human!

she is lovely ! is she registered with the welsh society? i've read coloureds arent allowed but as she's part bred...? (curious :p )

I have (all section D)
Two stallions, a yearling colt, a yearling filly, a two year old filly, a three year old filly, a four year old mare 5 brood mares, two ridden mares and a day old foal and I love them all.

what is right TBH....

far too highly strung.

A Sec D should be level headed, able to pull a cart to market on a friday, take the wife to church on sunday and hunt on a Tuesday

a Thorneyside wouldnt do that IMO

not heard of Thorneyside lines; mine isnt Thorneyside and has fab temperament..

anyone on here have a Thorneyside D then ?
