Very windy here in Leicestershire! We needed to get the horses out for some exercise today so decided to risk it. It was quite scary but I've discovered what scares ASBO the most. He did really well until there was am extra large bag stuck on the bushes but we got past it. Whew. Also the White shredded plastic carrier. Didn't care much for a can which blew across his path. But what REALLY freaked him out was me putting my hand on his rump. Didn't know he could jump into gallop so quickly. It was a start a racehorse would have been proud of! Except we were on a footpath and directly ahead was an unsuspecting pedestrian and to the right a flaming big tree. I looked like we were on for an outright bolt for home, but bless his little White feet, he stopped:eek: so proud of him. Man did look very worried as there were two other horses directly behind me wondering where the BB scaring monster was. :o A great outing though and I'm sure my nerves will recover soon :p

Anyone else been out today?

Does leading the baby feral carthorse from his stable to his turn out barn count ?

All of 100 yards, but with the wind up his tail he did a fair imitation of a shire horse shaped kite with furry leg warmers. Took no notice of my instructions to put his feet on the floor, naughty horse.

Yup. My four year old (well he's rising five but not'til July!) who hasn't been sat on for two weeks - I in my wisdom decided to take the poor lad out for a hack round the roads not having realised quite how windy it was. He's a dude though and didn't bat an eyelid - was a little joggy but that's more to do with the lack of work than the weather. He's not really concerned by such things - love my little pocket rocket!

Yes, battled through the gales in Northumberland with my friend. Our horses are very good in the wind though, we didn't have to worry about their reactions to things, only the icy blasts in our faces!

Yes, well it was my daughter who rode, and I was there in case of any incidents!

She rode her eventer in the school and he was brilliant.

Then she hacked ( I cycled ) on my OH's horse, and he didnt bat an eyelid at the wind, guys doing some tree felling, ponies and donkeys kicking off etc.

Both horses were superstars. :D

I rode out my 13.1 and led my 14.1 with us for the first time ever. Wind wasn't too bad when I left but got steadily worse, couldn't hear traffic behind me on the way home (very quiet road normally but three cars passed us).

Came back into my yard and just as I'd halted and taken my feet out the stirrups an empty white feed sack full of other empty white feed sacks came hurtling towards us  nothing I could do and the pony danced a bit but nothing too bad, was glad I wasn't half off at the time tho!

Donkey is her default position:

But by the end:

That definately counts!

Nope! Even tying my lad outside his stable nearly ended in disaster! Put friend's mare in paddock outside stable and she was cantering around too and turning up the ground much to YO's horror - ours really don't like the wind!

Had lesson before work this morning. Pony ok until we were ambushed by the terrier shooting out of the trees beside arena! Pony did a 180 turn a polo pony would envy. Proud to say I stayed on! Rest of lesson uneventful although I was chasing feed buckets across the field afterwards.

I'm 5 months pregnant and I went out hacking on my TB. He was fine, thinking about it he didn't even have a spook. At least it wasn't raining! It's meant to be rain and gales next week
:(.

Not a chance!
And then came home to find one of the roof panels on the new field shelter had been ripped off. Its only been up for 4 weeks!
Felt so smug on Sunday as we attached the ground bolts so no amount of wind could move it, now we'll have to get the ladder out in 6inches of mud to sort it out :(

Yes

Hacked out for an hour through the Scottish countryside- flooded roads & it was blowing a gale but big lass was very good even though i havent really been on her for weeks! :D:D

That's not good. I went into our shelter to see a mare whose got a poulticed foot and did not linger because I could hear the bolts squeaking against the metal and the noise was making her very nervous. Was not willing to risk being trampled by 17hh freaking out mare. I'm not convinced that the man who fitted our roof panels put enough fixings on either.

Yes,the girls both had a lesson out in the field today.Very very windy [also in Leicestershire],the jumps were blowing about all over the place. Knobberpony wasn't bothered though, although did have a scare when a dog poo bin lid flapped up at her on the hack home.

My eldest fell off going over a jump, but luckily the ground was soft so no major damage, can't blame the weather though, that was a combination of a taking a huge jump at speed and sliding on the muddy ground.

Yes. And discovered 2 things after attempting to erect a stretch of electric fence posts and tape on an exposed and boggy hillside in a 60 mph gale.

Plastic fence posts make really good Nordic walking poles.

It's impossible to retrieve electric tape from a 50ft tree.

Yes took my 5 YO out for a hack hes not bothered by the wind, then took my older mare down to the beach, that was seriously hairy but she dosent like the wind nought to 60 several times, but at least it wasnt raining.

Yeah rode 6 everyone of them was fine and we're in a rather exposed area.

Also rode Louie after 2 weeks off and 6 days not going out and he was ace. Honestly think the wind is a rider scarer and not a horse one, we get tense they feel it. The worst one did today was try to keep his bum turned towards the wind :p

Very windy down here in Devon, and in my wisdom I decided it was a good day to clip my twit of a spotty pony.He was a star,I was very covered in hair by the end of it:o

To be fair I could ride either of mine out in windy weather, and would be fine.Well on my cob would be fine,on my spotty lad it would probably be hilarious but would get home in one piece,I think anyway;):p
