Just got our Area Festival qualification email but sadly the closest venues have already had their AFs.

Considering a trip to Beacons in carmarthenshire at the end of October but it's a bit of a trek and I'll have to stable overnight.

Anyone been there? What are the arenas like etc? Friendly venue? well organised? etc etc...

It's for my good old bargain basement cob, I don't mind the journey if she will have a nice time at her first bigger show :) She's never stabled away so hope the stabling will be OK...

I live down the road :p.

Nice venue, warmup is very very small and does get crowded - I don't tend to compete there often for this reason as mine hates busy warmups. It's reasonably well organised and they do stick to times so you don't have to worry about people pushing in front of you.

Main arena is huge, they fit a 20 x 60 in it with ample space to spare.

Burger van is good, they started selling cheesy chips after I asked once and was aghast that they didn't do them ;).

Let me know if you do go and your times and I'll come up to play photographer - there isn't usually a pro-tog there.

Ooh super thanks DF :D
Waiting to hear back from them about the stabling before making a decision. She lives out at home so I'll only take her if we can get a stable where she is likely to settle (needs to see other horses close by etc) as she's a funny little thing and I don't want to upset her. She'd be happy outdoors with a haynet but that'll be hard to source at the end of October!

I can put you in contact with my YO if they can't offer the stabling you want :). My yard is about 20mins away from Beacons and she might be able to sort something out for you.

aww thanks for the idea, Summerhouse would have been my closest one and it was 2 weeks ago. Cob only did her third novice test last Friday so wasn't qualified until then - need a bit of time travel to make that possible!

I'm on the glos/hereford/wales border so I think Beacons is my nearest out of the ones that are left. Even that's 90-odd miles on the motorway route. Cob would pass out if i took her on the B roads!

In case you see this DF, our road trip is ON!

Lorry is off being sorted so transport is OK. stables are sorted with Beacons. We'll be there for Novice Open which is on Saturday 24th October. Woo hoo!

We go to beacons a lot as it is one of our local venues (still and hour and a half journey!) and it really is superb, we spend a lot of time over the bridge and this venue beats a lot of the places in Gloucester etc. the stables are clean and big, they spend a lot of money putting the best surfaces in and the car park is huge! The bacon sarnies are worth the trip! Penny and the whole family are very dressage orientated and understand exactly what is needed! You'll have a fab time!

Yay! :). I should be reasonably easy to spot, I'll be the one wandering around with the fancy camera ;).
