I was meant to be doing a sponsored ride with a friend but she has let me down, so I’m taking Bodey all on my own. I have never done a sponsored XC ride on my own before. I’m not worried about riding Bodey on my own as you can’t get a more sensible chap, but just a bit nervous about going on my own.

So has anyone else been to a sponsored ride on their own?

And is anyone here doing the Molash Sponsored ride in Canterbury, Kent on the 6th?

I would happily do some sponsored rides on my own if I had my own transport.
It would be nice to do everything exactly how I wanted, controlling speed, jumps etc.
I do know people who have gone on their own, and they had a ball.

So that’s fast all the way round then, he, he! Thanks, I’m kind of thinking I might be able to make friends with someone on the way round?

I've done the Badminton Ride on my own! Was alright - plenty of people around if you had problems!
I actually did half of it on my own then a nice group of riders let me ride the rest of it with them!

Another ride I did with some friends and there was a lady about to go around by herself so we let her come with us. You never know - someone else may be in the same position and you can ride together!

Yes I have in the past.I have found people are very helpful if my ned hasn't wanted to jump something they would give me a lead over. As TofC says you can go at your own pace and do what you want when you want

I haven''t but we have had several people tag on to us on the way round, we normally just say what speed we are planning on (ie canter wherever possible) and check they are ok with that.

I like having a few more as Frank is more forward with a bit of competition!

I don't think I would do one on my own!

I was meant to be doing the West Street Tickham Hunt Ride on the 13th September with a girl from my yard and shes just let me down!! If I can't find anyone else to go with I'm not doing it..

Oh damm it I would have done that with you but I’m on holiday that week! I’m not worried about riding Bodey as he really is easy, and I go to dressage and SJing all the time on my own.

You'll have a great time, and I'm sure you can buddy up with someone along the way if you want to.

I've done a couple on my own, when I couldn't find someone else able to come along. It was a case of go alone, or not at all and I really wanted to go.I had a fab time. As above, you can dictate your own speed, don't have to wait around while friends dither about looking at jumps, etc. But, depends on your horse. Sounds like you have lots of confidence in yours. I found people really friendly and keen to ride along for a while.
I have no one to hack out with and if I dared take my girl on her own to a fun ride I would!
Have fun!

I did one of the low key Endurance GB rides on my own, and hated it. I went quite late in the day and only really met up with one group of adults and kids who, although friendly enough, clearly didn't want me to tag along.

It was awful because if I was behind them, Rosie was fighting to keep up, and everytime they disappeared round a corner and then came into sight again she went nuts! (Not like her at all as she's not that sort!)

And when I tried to stay in front of them, they kept catching me up because I was too slow!

I was really lonely - which is utterly stupid as I box all over the place and hack out on my own usually!!

How many miles is the Molash ride?

Is it sponsored or just pay for it, and are there compulsory jumps?

Do you think a 4yr old Welsh Cob would be upto it? As I'd like to take her to this sort of thing though not sure what she'd be like with horses over taking.....

Maybe I could come with you......

I've done them on my own but have ended up pairing up with someone else which has worked out quite well. I think they're usually pretty friendly events.

No B***** else seems to ride where i am so i have no choice!

JOBO - are you next to John's land in detling? if so the black shire in the field next to yours is mine. working on the 6th but give me a shout if you get stuck any other time if somethings on when i'm not working i generally go

I have done loads of fun rides on my own and only once have I come across people who made it clear they did not want me to ride with them (perhaps they were ashamed of their dreadful riding lol!). I am quite happy on my own as I can go at my own speed. I usually catch up with folks, have a chat then move on. Sometimes I come across someone whose pace suits mine and stay with them. Apart from that one occation, everybody I've met have been really friendly.

I do. I find when I go on my own I tend to go faster, as you're not chatting so you're thinking more forward, also it can be a weensy bit boring doing 10 or 12 miles by yourself so I tend to push on more. My lad is very sensible and independent though and I don't have any difficulty passing people and he doesn't try and tank when he sees someone up in front.

Every time I've been out by myself (apart from once where it was a wet horrible day and hardly anyone was out) I've ended up meeting new people and having lovely interesting chats and I usually come back to the lorry park with a new buddy or set of buddies!

I did the Badminton ride on my own. I has always wanted to do it with my old boy but previous years had been scuppered by circumstances and I knew it was my last chance as he was 25, so when all my friends dropped out I decided to go anyway.

It was fab, I took it slower than I would have been able to with friends on bigger younger horses and we ended up teaming up with two lovely ladies on a four-year old on its first time out and and a 19 year old who was supposed to be babysitting and giving leads but wouldn't jump anything! I think they were quite pleased to see us as Eb was still loving his jumping and gave them leads over everything! Go along, you'll either bump into somebody you know or find a suitable group to tag along with.
