?dare I ask?

July has been pretty meh for us, the majority of it has been wet and overcast days. It would seem our summer is April/ May! I’m not ready for winter woolies yet though ?

Mine is moulting heavily ? He's been lightly shedding for about a month, now it's quite significant. Been thinking about checking the clippers to make sure all is in place, if we make it to September this year without clipping, I'll be surprised.

My ancient mare is really growing a coat already. Her teeth need doing under sedation soon so I’m thinking about clipping her to hold it off a bit longer at the same time.

My coloured mare started to shed the day BEFORE mid summers day! White hairs every where. The bay pony was a little later and the big horse who lives nearer the sea was covered in shedding hair when I went back to riding him after lock down. Grooming seems to be keeping it at bay and here in the west country the evenings still seem quite light but decidedly chilly even after a sunny day. The seasons are getting unpredictable these days.

Yup all bar my old stallion are. He is a bit of a weirdo! He goes from summer coat to full winter fluff in a week towards the end of October then at the start of April he drops it all in the space of 10 days to be back in full summer glory. He is 28yo and has done this every year of the 21 years we have owned him. If only they could all be like him!

Can you pay extra for that when you buy a horse? Got to be worth £500, surely?

Yup it’s coming out in lumps and the wee ones are about half a cm fatter than last week. I hope it’s not a sign of what’s to come in winter ?

Yep my roan has got rid of his lovely dark summer coat and grown in his not so lovely much lighter fluff ? my mare is moulting everywhere, and with the amount of berries on the bushes I'm dreading winter

I think I've started to see a coat change but I'm in complete denial about it :D

The days are certainly beginning to draw in though :( Yesterday morning, there was a definite chill in the air for the first time when I first got up.

Highland has started moulting. WB still in summer coat.
Eta wouldn't say we've had a particularly bad summer up here...not exactly sun splitting the skies every day but very very warm and humid most days

If it's any consolation, my gelding had a thick winter coat by last September, which was clipped 4 times by Christmas, and the winter wasn't that bad, he lived out in a medium weight half neck. I'd be more worried if my guy didn't grow a crazy coat ?

My Exmoor always sheds from beginning of July. Coblet is shedding thick and fast, too. He's clipped all year round, though, which helps!
