My boy stayed out - fortunately the bottom of the paddock is nicely sheltered with oaks and birches. Besides his stable is the lightest on the yard (has a couple of clear panels in the roof - great when it's cooler but not so good when it's hot - so better for him to stay out with his harem.
In always in during the summer during the day,
The flies here are awful at the mo and poor J has got conjunctivitis from them so he's in totally for a few days as they got at him early this am and it was awful and sore. Hopefully a few days box rest wearing a mask during the day will settle it.
No, our stables are in the middle of the yard so get very warm, brought him in for a long groom and a drink earlier. Then put him back out as his field has a lot of trees at one end and a stream running through them so he's been wallowing down there like a mini hippo to cool down
No. Mine stays out on horrid winter days & hot summer ones, so always pick fields with shelter. We have plenty of natural shelter & shady areas so much nicer to be out. Having been off today, I do know my two spent the majority lying flat out in the sun rather than in the shade.
