have been looking for over a year though

Years ago when I was moving from ponies to horses we were looking for something about 15.1 to 16hh, gelding, 8ish that had been there and done a bit of everything that I could go and have fun on.
We bought a 15.1 mare that was 4 and very green! She was the show pony of the year in hand the year before and was very pretty! Bad mistake!

When I bought my horse ages ago i was looking for:

approx 10 years old, cobby type, safe, done a bit of everything bout 15hh.

GOT

16hh TB done naff all... had to teach him everything (not ideal when its your first horse after a 13.2hh pony!), got the age right though he was 9.

Definitely done this a few times...

Wanted: youngster to train/play with and eventually ODE. 16hh ish, fine build (i'm skinny), sensible.
Got: 16.2hh ID type built like a brick sh1t house and strong as an ox. 15yrs old.

and then later on..

Wanted: young horse 4-6 yrs, 16hh, potential for dressage/eventer type, pref gelding.
Got: 15.1 welsh X mare, totally nuts, would never settle to dressage and zoomed round with head in the air, jumped like a stag (when it suited her), 11yrs

Loved her to bits mind but next time I SWEAR I am going to buy that youngster. LOL

wanted a 15.2hh small hunter for the show ring, ready to go, the ability to event would have been a bonus but must have been capable of doing a working hunter course! and a deacent dressage test. Any colour except grey! must travel in trailer or lorry.

i got, 16.2hh riding horse type, grey, wouldnt know an outline if it jumped up and bit him on the nose and never done anything except hunt. He luckily had clean legs though would not travel in a trailer.

Have not regretted it and he is coming along nicely he is not going to be ready to be shown at the counties untill about june i would think (purely because he will be in a class where the judge rides and i will not put a judge on board untill i can garentee his behavior). He will probably do a few local shows before then to get him used to the atmosphere, but he is sooo laid back anyway im not too worried about it phasing him.

when I was looking I wanted something that was a native x, no bigger than 15h, about 12-ish, quite slow and easy to ride.

So I got George, 16.3 shire tb x, 8yrs, forward going and not a push button ride - but he was so the right choice!

Wanted:

15.2 - 16hh RC all rounder type horse. Had to have some quality about it and aged between 4 - 7.

Got:

16.2hh Gray part TB gelding - 8 years old. RC standard, quality horse.

So pretty much got exactly what I was looking for

wanted: a large 16 hh plus sports horse to showjump and play with....arround 5-10 yrs

got: 15 1HH dales with an attitude, feet never leave the ground unless rearing.....

MoonWalker You don't half make me giggle I love your posts

Not this time!

Wanted: 15.3-16.2 TB, TBx native or WB, aged 4-8, capable of being RC all-rounder. No pref to mare or gelding, prefer chesnut. Must be nice!

Got: 16hh TB ex-racer, 4yo (just!), and capable of being at least RC all-rounder. Not chesnut, though is very light bay and is very very soppy, bless him

ETS: Though he was a bit under-budget!! But that's good, right?

But I was really really sticking to my guns. I'd had 3 years to plan what I wanted!

Wanted a 16hh-16.2hh pref gelding of eventer type, between 4-7. Would like a coloured, but something that had done a bit. Almost brought a 15.3hh chestnut mare (!) but then saw sanity (almost!) and brought Goddy, who ticked all boxes except age!!

Wanted 16hh ish +8years Irish Sports Horse type all rounder with pre-novice experience to go out and start having fun immediately after long term illness

Got 17'2 just broken 5 year old KWPN warmblood that would quite like me dead from the looks of things!

yep me..!!

wanted: 16hh 8yrs+, pref done Novice/Int BE but can't go further to drop down and show me the ropes as i was scared to even jump 2'6" let alone teach a youngster to jump.!!

purhcased: 16.3hh 5yo TB who had done 2 rounds of SJ and been XC schooling round Iping once.. no flatwork whatsoever..

turned out to be a good gamble, he is the best.!!

Yes - last 2 I bought

First one - wanted 8-12yo JD/JC pony not too much winnings but chunky enough to last me until out of juniors
Ended up with a 5yo Welsh D (size ok) mare that had done 1 in hand class and 1 ridden, broken 6 months earlier after being recued from a dealing yard

Second one - wanted 5-7yo low BSJA winnings, 16-16.1 but not a complete greeny. To buy and bring on then sell before I went to college
Ended up with 16.1 4yo (that grew to just under 17hh) backed and ridden 6 times. Gelded 2 weeks before being advertised and had been to Markfield CR and reared at teh wall and refused to go over it
crazy.gif
- he's gone on to win £350 BSJA before I lost my nerve and competing Adv Med dressage unaff, Med aff and is now 19

Wanted 16hh tb x chestnut gelding. All rounder who's done a bit of everything. Age 8 - 10ish

Couldn't find a chestnut so had to settle for a black one!

I learnt the terror of list making with previous horses so this time I just said

not an andalusian (there's been an influx of them onto my yard)

You can guess what I bought can't you

Still am very happy with my cheeky litte chap.

Yep me...
Looking for a 15.2hh+ 4- 6 yr old gelding to compete in BE, and do abit of everything...

What I got was...

11yr old coloured Gypsy Cob Mare, who had done naff all but get fat in a field for 3 years...

However she has done me proud and won lots for me last year showing in-hand and undersaddle.

Wanted: nothing, I'd just lost my arab mare and have an ex-racer mare that is my "Precious One"

Got - 16.3hh+, 6yo TB gelding (don't do geldings, never had one before since my rig shetland), underweight, cribs chronically, kicks, bites, bucks, naps, had a bad attitude, throws temper tantrums, is stiff as a board and very tense. Only 3wks in, ask me in a month if it was the right thing...

My friend was horse shopping and decided against him but I couldn't get him out of my head. That's the trouble with having an empty head :P

Having had a TB youngster, and been riding a cob carriage horse for someone, I was pretty sure that I wanted a cob, as I loved the carriage horse to bits. I went out looking for a 7 -9 year old 15.3+ cob. Something that would do a bit of everything, would hack, dressage, maybe pop some uber small trotting pole type jumps and get me confident, I wanted something low maintenence that I didn't need to trim, or pull the mane of and that would be a good doer.
I came back with a rising 4 TB mare, barely 15hh, very dainty (French bred) straight off the track. She naps, isn't a push buttons pony and needs a very confident rider, and I am so glad I chose her! She is 15.2hh now though, and did winter well, definately my horse of a lifetime

Oh dear us horsy people we just cant resist!!!

Wanted 16h, showjumper any type not ex-racer and not bay (as so many horses are bay)

Got: A bay ex-racer who needed surgery 3 months after I brought him and would not let me put a briddle on!!!

Thank god im a patient person, he is so perfect now so sometimes it does work out

Yep - wanted a 15-16.2 project horse to bring on and sell as a RC alrounder making suitable profit to help finance new horse box.

Got - 13.2 fat, hairy black negelceted pony that was on his way to the meat man when he got diverted to my yard. Unhandled, completely mad, had to be sedated to have his feet trimmed and to get a headcollar on we had to corner him in the stable with a wall of straw bales, sedate him IM with enough sedative to knock out a 16.2 and he still fought us! Magic has now been given to my friend (so I lost money on him, so much for an investment!) and after 3 years hard work he will now hack out nicely and jump a small course of jumps.

Not what I wanted at all but nice feel good factor in giving a condemed pony a new start in life! Still not got that new horse box tho, oh well!
