Anyone else done a 'Weezy'????

With my horse, Fudge, I got exactly what I was looking for.
Lady, I went to look at a 14hh cob gelding a the rescue centre she was at and ended up with a 13.2hh, newly broken, Welsh B x Arab, 7 year old chestnut mare with loads of issues as I felt sorry for her. Ten years on with all her issues solved or accepted, I wouldn't swap her for the world.
 
Wanted: Nothing at all...was quite happy with my mare and my foal on the way.

Got: A weanling Shire x TB weedling, supposedly to make 16hh tops.
I'm not sure how or why I ended up buying her....a work colleague fostered her onto her mare (dead foal) and my OH, and friend and I helped colleague with the fostering 'shifts'.....somehow at the end of it, everyone decided she ought to be mine....

She is now 16.2ish in front, but very croup high, and still growing...will probably be about 17hh and 750kg when finished.

Wanted Nice 16.1hh showjumping horse, School master sort, been there done it all for abit of fun .
Bought 7 mth old ISH foal in the form of missy whos nearly 16.2hh at 2 yrs old .

Wanted Schoolmaster pony been there done it all , experienced pony .
Bought Tommy section a 3 yr old sat on once .
Hes now 4 years old and a fantastic little pony who is going really well .

Think everyone is guilty of doing this , thats life for you , its all set out for you and there is nothing you can do about it .

Hence why I never really bother planning anything, never works out lol .

I wish! I've never had a budget available to just go out and shop for what I would consider to be my dream horse (although a part of me dreams of a compact Iberian horse one day) so have had to take what has been on offer cheap or on loan. There have been some mad ones, some OK ones, some broken ones, but some truly special horses too, an ugly but lovely cob I had when I was taking my son out on the lead rein who was just a total gentleman, his lead rein pony and the two Highlands I have now.

They are what you make of them, and shopping lists and preconceptions aren't always a good thing.
 
Yep. Me.

First pony got killed after attempted theft of Grade A SJ broodmare that was grazed with her. My pony got onto the road & was hit by a drunk driver.

Left it a year or so & went to Andoversford horse sale for 'a day out' & to get some ideas. Definitely no buying.


Looking for - 13/13.2 pony. Not too wide & a bit of a confidence giver. Could live out with no rugs & no supplementing. Just an easy pony that had done a bit of everything & trustworthy as I was 11ish & not hugely confident.

Got 3yr old just broken chestnut NF mare. She went mental in the ring & failed to sell. Tracked her down outside the ring & just couldn't walk away from her. Checked her over for obvious faults & bought her there & then. Got her home & she was shaking with nerves, led her around the field to settle her. Rode her & she bucked everyone off. Got her back checked & it had been damaged so I was advised to turn her away for a year/18 months & re break her before bringing her slowly back into work. She needs supplementing & also rugging.

She is now rising 11 & I would not be without her. She's my horse of a lifetime. I re-broke her & reschooled her & it was trial & error but I think we learned from each other. She is the sweetest natured pony I have ever come across & she is well loved on the yard. So although we went against every single piece of advice there is on buying horses, it worked out that time!

Would never have set out to buy a 13.3hh chestnut mare who bites, kicks, naps, bolts, is bad in traffic, is bolshy on the ground and everything is done on her terms....however I did and despite her faults she is brilliant, worth sorting out her issues as she just gets better and better, despite being 18 this year

wanted: 14.2 - 15hh, 9 - 15yo, gelding, safe plod, to do pony club and low level competing in jumping and dressage.

got: mental, very big, soild 16hh 6yo gelding, very lovely boy but is a little bit mad, doesn't jump.

oh well, i wouldn't have anything else, and i bet i'd have been bored stiff on a push-button slow-coach.
 
Me! was getting my first horse so wanted a gelding, minimum 8 yrs who had been there done it, would help to show me the ropes etc. came home with 5 year old mare straight off the boat from ireland who promptly came home and broke her leg because she is stroppy and enjoys fighting in the field! still have days when i wonder what was i thinking?? x

Wanted: 15.1 - 16.0hh 10 - 15 yr old cobby good doer type. Any colour preferably not grey.

Got: 17.1hh trakehner, dressage specialist GREY!

Wouldn't swap him for the world though!!!!
 
I went out in 1999 looking for a 15hh-ish gelding. Wasn't fussy on breed as I only hack, but looking for older horse to learn horse ownership with. Ended up with a 12hh-and-a-bit Exmoor pony, 8yrs old and green as spring grass! Still got him! I'll grow up one day...

i wanted a 15hh ish coloured allrounder,safe and sane !

i ended up with a 17hh carriage horse who cant jump and i can only hack,although im going to try and get him out showing this year so he can do somthing other than hack !!! he is safe and sane so i got that bit rite !!he he

To be honest i only tend to buy what im looking for! In saying that i always buy youngsters, i would say the only thing is with buying youngsters, it is not a bargain if you cant do the work yourself, as is very expensive to have them broken and schooled to the standard you want.
 
Went to buy a Sec B broodmare came home with a 4 month old sec A colt (who turned out to be a rig) who was standing knee deep in [****], and half starved, shouldn't even have been weaned, he was going to Llanybydder the following week, this was a top Welsh Stud, I was disgusted .. bought him for £33, turned into a stunning pony, taught kids to ride (he was sharp

i wanted a gelding, around 14.2 - 15.1, around 5-10 years, not grey or chesnut.

And got a 13.1 chesnut mareish mare !! what?! how did that happen.
Love her to bits though and for all her faults, she has never 'broken' touch wood in two years and has had a bash at everything i've asked her to do.
 
Wanted - 16hh 3/4 tb 1/4 id lw to mw gelding 5-8 years old, nice allrounder.

Got - 15hh chestnut mare, heavyweight, 12 years old, she is a good allrounder, i suppose if you ignore the fact that she refuses to jump! (what is the point when you can go round them!)

Love her to bits and wouldn't change her for the world!

Yep, and me, there are some funny stories on here, I think we all must`ve done it to some extreme.
My first competition horse years ago, I wanted any colour besides chestnut or grey about 16.2 show jumper pref gelding, about 6-7.
Got a grey mare 16.2hh 6yr old show jumper, so 50 % there.
This last time, I wanted bay/brown mare/gelding 5-7 eventer/show jumper who has competed quite a lot of show jumping up the higher grades.
I got a chestnut mare

show jumped, but not a lot, 8 years.
But the grey (Not sure about the chestnut as only had her for 3 months) she was a stunner, we won/got well placed every time out whether it was dressage, sj or x-c. She was a horse in a million - literally. Also she gave me a surprise foal 11 months after I bought her.

Wanted - Welsh D, Mare, preferably Chesnut. No bigger than 15hh. 8-12yrs old with proven record.

Got - Cob X, Piebald, Mare, 15.3hh, 6yrs just backed and done nothing!!!

I have to say still have her 7yrs on and she is perfect, but the only box she ticked was the mare one!!! Guess when you think you have found the right one, you can ignore some (all) your wish list!!!!

When we were looking for our first horse we wanted something around 15:2hh, chunkyish, safe, sane, sensible and youngish.

Got Minnie, a 14 year old chestnut TB... love him though, has taught me so much
 
Yes, my next horse was going to be a cob for just plodding around on. No way did I want another youngster, I didn't need the hassle of bringing on another horse

WANTED - something around 6yro, done a bit of everything but still needed bringing on, good to hack out, not a full TB, peferably something a bit native.

GOT - 3yro in a 7yro body, full TB, ex racer, can be bad to hack, needs to be totally restarted, has done nothing.
 
Yep, wanted a quiet ride and something to do RC stuff with, got a unbroken youngster who ended up knocking my confidence
