My boy has had surgery on his stifle.
6 weeks box rest, 6 weeks field rest then vet will assess him.
Stem cell therapy in 2 weeks.

Hopefully will make a good recovery, but will take time.

So who has has a 'broken' horse at the moment.
And what do you do with yourself while your horse is on box rest?

Moi. We have a girth gall so we will be off for the next few weeks. :( .

I will be giving baby horse more attention and catch up in some housework.

Yes- Bust up knee. Been 11 weeks now on box rest and still not looking good :-(
TBH its not a case of being bored for me as he was my old horse who id rehomed but then came back so he's an unexpected number 2! I dont want 2 to ride anyway!
The problem im finding is the cost side of it- He's dirty and eats his own body weight in hay daily then on top of that theres bandages and goodness only knows what else.
Not good. Hope yours is better soon x

My pony has a broken splint bone.

6-8 weeks box rest 4 weeks on the walker and small paddock turn out and then I can start riding him again. x rays at 6 weeks and then again at 10 weeks. It is going to be a long time before he comes back to his normal yard I think.

It is very frustrating as I am missing all the RC competitions and I feel sorry for him as he normally lives out and does not like being stabled so box rest is really tough for him. He has gone to a specialist full livery rehab yard for his box rest and it takes me nearly 2 hours to get there on a combination of bus/train/walk so weekend visits only.

He is normally on DIY grass livery so not seeing him every day is very weird. Also as he is on full livery now at the rehab yard there is not much to do when I visit, they don't groom him on the days that I visit so I can have something to do!

I have volunteered to help out at the RC events that I can't compete at, will be very frustrating to watch everyone having fun competiting when I can't join in but they always need volunteers so I can at least give something back.

I am also staying late at work to do more work, going to tesco a lot as I seem to be eating more food. The one thing I did want to do but have failed on is be more tidy at home!

The money side I'm not worrying about yet as his shoes had to be taken off so that's at least a saving of £140 and obviously can't have my weekly dressage lesson which is a saving of £30 per weeks plus competition fees.

Rather have my horse back fit and well though.

Tell me about it, my pony normally on DIY grass livery and now on rehab box rest and I am spending in a week what I would normally spend in a month! Thankfully insurance is covering some of the costs of alternative management - up to £500, as well as the vets bills, vet coming every 10 days at the momement and I also have been very careful with money so have savings and my parents have kindly offer to contribute a little as well which is very unlike them.

1 x cellulitis in back leg, I'm now worrying its hiding something more sinister.

Has only been in for a week, but this has included 3 injections a day plus a skin ful of anti-bs. However still not looking good enough considering the amount of drugs that has been pumped into him.

Yep! Alf was just starting to look really good after having Tildren for mild DJD, and shockwave on 'woolly' hind suspensories - but then came in lame after a youngster in his field spent a week chasing him. Vet suspects near-hind suspensory is hurting him as he was kicking out at the shockwave machine last week, so he's off games for the forseeable. He's being scanned on the 11th, and am keeping my fingers crossed that nothing awful shows up. He's out on his own, rather than being box rested (fine in the field, but likes to bust some moves in the stable if left in too long for his liking) and looks much better just wandering round. Icing the dodgy leg 2x a day at the moment, and mentally preparing myself for no more riding this year :-(

I have two at the moment.
Young horse currently in leahurst equine hospital with a suspected septic hock following a puncture wound he got on thursday and old boy got a chest infection :(
Filling my time with mollycoddling old boy and preparing smokies stable for his hopeful return on tuesday

Me too! Horse on rest in small paddock, had a sudden onset wobbler type episode, been off most of the year anyway with newly diagnosed navicular, a tooth removed and bruised soles!

Yep, me, 1 on field rest with ligament injury. Other one suspected pregnant - having her scanned this week to confirm. Gah, I give up!

Mine is currently off games but I'm hoping it's only for another week or so!

I've just bought my first lorry so I want to get out and about in it :D

Bi lateral collaterall ligament desmitis :( been on rest in small 14x14 turnout patch of grass and stabled overnight as she goes nuts on full box rest, its only been 6 weeks and already shes being a pain, i wish we were 6 months in and turning the corner

Dublin not right on left hind, got lot of puss out of a cut just on fetlock, cleaning and antiseptic and hot tubbing in daily, and back lady coming soon cos he sore after a xc schooling session so only doing in hand stuff.

Mine has been on box rest pretty much for 6 months, did his front suspensory in March, was on box rest for 3 months. Turned out for 2 weeks beginning of June, in work for all of 4 weeks and then came in with a kick 10th July, 2 weeks later confirmed as a stress fracture and on box rest until end of september then a further xray to check if its fixed or not.

I've been trying to have a lesson once a month either at riding schools or on friends horses, I've been lucky enough to go for a weeks riding in Italy (April) plus I've been hopping on a couple of horses on the yard now and then while people have been on hols :D The dog has been walked a lot too!

I am quite bored of it now, but hopefully only 5 weeks to go *sigh* If I can get back on before Christmas I'll be a happy lady or back on at all tbh!

He had PSD and 6 months box/small paddock rest that finished in March. Got back riding again and was just about to consider jumping again.

Now he has a damaged tendon, has spent two weeks at a horse spa having it treated, I'm picking him up today so he's at home to go to the vets tomorrow morning for further scans, and hopefully a good diagnosis :o

I had a classical lesson on a school master yesterday which was amazing, and I think I am meeting JenHunt and the lovely Ron this saturday.
