Anyone else got snow?

Would anyone be kind enough to give me a bit of guidance about paws and when is too cold to walk them etc? This is my first dog and I haven't a clue, I'm scared about him getting frost bite because of my ignorance! Should I buy him boots?

He’s unlikely to get frostbite because he’ll be moving and they sweat/lose heat through paws. My issue this morning is how hard the ground will be when my lot tend to gallop round. No harm in protecting feet, but he might find it tricky to move in boots. I have seen some with big grips, they look pretty cool! Hopefully someone who uses boots will come along soon.

Thank you, that makes sense and makes me feel much better!

If he is walked on roads and paths which have been gritted with rock salt, give his paws a rinse when you get home.

West ireland deep frost as we havent been above 0 for a few days, and -5+ at night as we’re at elevation. Set to be like this all week.

??
The robins are loving it, groups of them flitting around! I have mealworms and a feeder on order so hopefully will catch some feeding frenzy pics. They’re having to make do with fat balls, which have got very hard with these temps.

Ive still got potatoes to dig-up, but shall leave them buried with this freeze, as rats ate a whole bucketful of freshly dug potatoes i’d left in the polytunnel …a whole bucket full…?

I didn't know you were in Ireland @PurBee, I learn something knew on here everyday.

Baltic is the only word for the North today but no snow as yet just North of Belfast, probably soon though. Great fun in icy conditions when still working on lead pulling.

Yep, a wild wester! ? You must be getting it pretty chilly up there…soon have the ski’s out!

They keep threatening snow for us, then the forecast gets changed. The rural roads are yet to be gritted..
We normally get these unreleting freezes after christmas, so am in rationing-mindset to avoid unnecessary journeys on the ice roads.

No snow but its very very cold ❄ I have been bringing the horses in at night as the ground is rutted and it's freezing solid each night but most of it thaws in the sun, but tomorrow its not going above freezing all day as not much sun so will keep an eye on how the ground is.

I'm not too worried they seem to stand on the hard standing where I put the haynets and have a little mooch round through the day so fairly sensible of them really.

Ah I'll be down with the in laws in Galway and then with my family in the Clare/Limerick border for Christmas so I'm expecting treacherous roads. Hopefully not as bad as 2010 when we couldn't get up the drive!

Fingers crossed by actual christmas day the milder weather will have returned - travel should be much safer, as we’ve got 9 degrees forecast next sunday.
Not that i often wish for mild weather and rain here!..?.. but i do at christmas so all the extra travelling we do can be done safely.

2010 was a stinker of a winter...we’re up a steep track and had to walk with rucksack for supplies km’s away.
They should contract farmers to spread salt in the rural parts, it’ll likely get done then!

I'm enjoying very wintery scenery from a train window. It's snowed at home while I've been away for the weekend. Ivy has been with a relative, near our home where it's also snowed, who said she was reluctant to come back in the house this morning, most unlike her!

It started snowing here last night and we woke up to 4 inches. I was really excited to see the dog’s reaction to her first ever snow but other than trying to eat it and being a bit bemused she didn’t really react.

Mine have got wrecked feet from working in it on Saturday. I assume the snow was exacerbated by the clear fell they were in but I’ve got 3 off games with cracked feet. Not liking snow so much now!

Oh boo! That’s not good. Have you tried Musher’s Secret?

Snow in Cambridgeshire.

I wouldn’t put it on until you are at the door, it’s gloopy stuff on application. I put it in before they get out of the pick up at the start of the day.
