I'm sitting at home nursing a broken collar bone which has had to be pinned. It's my right shoulder so being right handed I'm fast discovering how many things can't be done one handed and the left one is not too well coordinated. Getting lots of nagging from family about my dangerous hobby but I've no plans to retire just yet. So home alone and wondered how many more of you are in the same situation. :(

Poor you. {{hugs to you}}

My horse is out of action does that count :).

I had a broken arm last year after falling off my horse. Which resulted on a lot of time on HHO as I couln't do much. Hopefully you will be up an running in 6 weeks unfortunately I was out of action for 4 months.

JANA

Recovering from having my pelvis rebuilt and a hip replacement. Two months since op, another month til I can get rid of my crutches and four more (at least) til I can ride!
Very frustrating, as I haven't ridden my new horse yet

I am well and truly injured. I am on my summer holidays (teacher) and had planned copius amounts of hacking. One hack and upon our return I was picking her feet out, she massively spooked and slammed down onto my foot. Cue xrays, club foot that went from green to purple to blue to black and now infected bloodclots! Getting there though! What a miserable time we are having. I hope you are soon recovered and able to ride :) x

Aw..poor you. Big one armed hug (())

I have a broken foot and a poorly kidney does that count, thoughts to all us injured and unable to ride at the moment, no riding for me for about another six weeks ish

poor you, I wish you a speedy recovery.
I just have a minor one - my horse stomped on my foot yesterday while I was wearing my wellies, luckily nothing is broken, but it's black/blue and swollen...
Get better soon x

awww i really feel for you - i got thrown off a little while ago -and sommersaulted over his neck ( he really didnt want to be ridden that day) I dislocated my clavicle (collar bone) luckily my left side and Im right handed. Anyway rest your arm as much as poss - trammadol if your dc will give them are helpfull - I rode my mums lovely school mistress within 4 weeks and my naughty school boy the week after! - I did see the physio for 6 weeks post injury and she was amazing - i kept getting muscle knots in my back & shoulder due to pain spasms - she put a huge needle in a big knot - it ached for an hr after then like a miracle all the pain/ache went away. Some 9 weeks later Im d oing everything I did before - sometime my shoulder aches a little and feels a bit stiff but other than that Id never know I disclocated it. (on the x ray the gap between my clavicle and shoulder where it should have been was at least an inch and half and boy it really really hurt. Alternate ice and heat packs as well and when you can bear to rub/massage the ligaments in your clavicle to help strengthen it. Get well soon - before you know it you will be back riding and lugging heavy bales of shavings/hay etc and muck heap trips like nothing ever happened!

yup 6 weeks ago my darling horse decided to screw up my hand.. im 6 weeks in to 6 months...i ruptured all the tendons by breaking a bit of bone off, and managing to break that in 2..

in short chances are i wont ever have full use of my left hand again, have a 2nd op looming to..:mad:

re doing stuff, u just have to sit and think about it.. do clothes up before you put them on, if u need to open packets just cut with scissors..jars/bottles wedge in a draw ..

you can get various gadgets for left hands.. if you google left handed gadgets, or gadgets for one hand lots will appear!:D

Thanks Alfiepie. It helps to know what I can expect with regards to recovery. Mine is pinned near to the shoulder so I'll have limited upwards movement until the plate is removed but I'm sure I will start being a bit more active once the worst of the bruising and damage from the op recedes. I've not needed so many painkillers today. I was a bit concerned about how much muscle problems I'll have so seeing how you fared I'd better get on and do my daily PT.:)
I think I might have also done a bit of a summersault as I've got a bruise on my hip and landed facing away from the direction I was travelling. It was so stupid. One second I was trotting along to go into the arena to do a dressage test rehearsal then the pony I'd been allocated tripped and fell and there I was gone.

Oh.oo. Painful! I've already sussed out a few workarounds. Can't get my arm into sleeves so I'm learning to go in feet first. :) I hope your recovery goes well. :) I've seen you post on here but did not realise you were injured recently.

sadly yes stupid accident, horse pulled back having a hissy fit, i let him get on with it and the reins just broke me, bloody annoying, ive done the self pitying bit, i just have to accept my fate!!.

buttering bread thats an amusing task.. i cant use my left arm in any way this also meens my shoulder and elbow:mad:

oh and make up and hair straigtening lol.

good luck with your recovery x

I've not ridden in a year.. I got sick a year ago.. Had surgery January after spending a few months yellow and on morphine.. Now I'm being treated for fibromyalgia and investigated for arthritis following more surgery and a mounting block accident last may.. I'm desperate to get on my mare and go for a hack up the lane :/

Hope everyone mends quickly :)

am 18 wks after a broken right fractured knee cap and left broken ankle which was broken both sides lol :-) am back on my feet and back to work but ankle plays up and found out i have stretched a tendon on the ankle to!!

Oh I do feel for you. My clavicle was in five bits after a riding accident in March and it is still horribly painful at time. I was warned that I might lose some movement so did as much as possible from Day 1, now I wonder if that was wise. Mine wasn't pinned but seems to have healed as a big lump. Hopefully it will get less painful as time passes. I find those grain filled heat pads are the only thing to help with the pain.

Just a quick one - ask for physio mine really helped me - rest up as much first week - make a flask up for brews during day, and take up people'f offers of help in the meantime - don't be a hero!! Good luck with the recovery - Im really lucky my clavicle has healed really well - unless you know Ive dislocated it you cant tell I dont have the noticeable step that others have - I guess I was very very lucky.

Physio is already sorted by hospital. They seemed to think that I might appreciate full fitness recovery as I'm a rider.lol. I Did my Alexander technique semi supine today and that helps with getting my neck and shoulders relaxed. Sneezed..oh that hurt:eek:
Big hugs all around to the poor squashed feet and toes and fingers the torn muscles and knees and the poorly bones wherever they lurk. {{hugs}} We will all soon be up and mounted and risking a repeat I am sure:)

How on earth did you cope with the pain! Mine has one break but by the time I got to A&E I was in tears. The first doc said it would be left to mend itself but luckily the consultant in charge thought otherwise. I was quite relieved when I saw the x ray and she said that it was just the clavicle. I thought from the pain and where the impact was that I'd damaged my shoulder as well. I think I have a pad somewhere. Heat sounds nice right now. Thank you.

Getting lots of nagging from family about my dangerous hobby but I've no plans to retire just yet. So home alone and wondered how many more of you are in the same situation. :(

Ouch. I've been getting hassle from my OH too about how dangerous riding is - apparently now Ive got a 3 month old baby, that means I have to stop anything potentially dangerous and wrap myself in cotton wool! I came off a 14.2hh I was backing for a friend about a month ago - he took off suddenly and I went out the side door at speed straight into a plastic jump block. Hurt like hell I have to say, and Im still sore now! Have basically wripped the muscles round my right hip. Couldn't walk for about a week and am only just driving again and only just got on a horse again yesterday (not the one that threw me off)! This is after I had to stop riding in February due to pregnancy fatness, then I had to have a c-section in May so felt like hell for a good 2 months after that and then this happens! Apart from yesterday I've only pootled about on my little retired pony gently once or twice since February! So very keen to get going properly again. You will be back into it again really soon. x

Hu bobandfred. I'm back in the saddle again complete with body protector (-: it's just possible that's it's sooner than advised by the doc but I was getting very bored and unfit. Sorry to hear you've had a fall )-: hope it's not too painful and that you recover quickly. :)

Yes! Not quite as bad as anyone else's injuries. Just a fractured finger, but it has to be strapped together with the middle finger.

Wanted to jump last night and ended up unstrapping my fingers so I could do so, and I think I've made it worse...

I came off last week and have a small compression fracture in my lower spine. Doctors a bit vague about when I can start riding again. Does anyone have experience of this injury and recovery time/tips for a quick recovery?
