I love me three to bits, but sometimes I wish I still had just the one.

My poor lad ends up with hand me downs from the other two as my daughter usually gets the new stuff for the two which (in theory) are hers.

Even then I always buy in the sale or discount brands.

He got his first new rug in ages at the weekend, a bargain I got half price, shame its pink :o

I see the other owners on the yard buying the latest rugs and equipment which I just cant afford with three to buy for.

Anyone else feel this way occasionally.

I also buy second hand or sale stuff for my lot - they don't care, in fact I love searching out bargains.

Would I put my boy in a pink rug?... hell yeah! :D

Good point, but even with three I dont have anything to ride properly.

Me and my 36 year old have an occasional ride around the fields. I sometimes take our 22 year old retired show cob out, but she doesn't really suit me. My old lad is nuts and still has no brakes, the show cob I have to use my legs  Not enjoyable at all.

And we wont even mention the warmblood. I did sit on it once, but probably had a death wish that day. I wont happen again :D

well don't come here for advice if he gets 'issues'.

Mine already has issues. He went to a show wearing a hand me down pink flowered fleece :D Local radio guy commented on what a lovely old girl he was :D

Ha - and here I am, jealous of those who can afford more than one horse!!! But my horse is mostly 'naked' (apart from the winter) and on grass. She's also going to have the same rug this year as last. Doesn't bother me at all...

No, what would I do with all that extra time and spare money :D

Im not into buying the latest rugs and equipment, its of no interest, so thats not a problem anyway :)

Only time I think it would be handy to have one is when Im looking at jobs on the internet where I could take a horse with me.

I miss having two :( Even if it was just for the variety of riding a different horse. Problem is I either have time for 2 or the money for 2 - but never both at the same time

Having said that it is nice to only have to muck out 1 stable at the end of the day (mine is out overnight) after a long ride when you're tired and want to go home!

He's mended now Rhino :D thanks for asking!! Just on the road to getting fit again, which he's not enjoying as he just wants to blast about & he is truly bored of trotting! xx

Absoutely, though I'm down to two, so all good. Last year, I had six in for the winter, and was soo stressed coming towards the spring, i said never again, unless i could afford to pay someone to help. It is just way too much work unless you dont have anything else to do. I was so stressed out, as it had become a chore, rather than me enjoying it. I am def envious of anyone that has one horse!!!!

I only have the one. He spends most of his time ill / injured (thus I spend most of my time fantasizing about having a second HEALTHY one) and is an arthritic old man even when he is sound (with the brain of a 2 yr old naturally). He averages about one new rug every couple of years if he's lucky (if he doesn't destroy them I don't replace them, virtually all his stable rugs are around 7 or 8 years old and had one of his turnouts for 5 years), I only replaced his bridle cos it was going cracked and mouldy (and the replacement was a freebie from a friend) and the only extravagant purchase I have planned for him is a new saddle when I have the money as current one isn't a brilliant fit

I'm sure he loves his pink rug ;)

Seriously though, he knows no different to getting new presents. I'm sure he is happy with the amount of care and love he clearly gets :)

Jealous of those who can have more than one!! I'd love to get another as mine is so easy to do that it'd be nice to have a youngster to bring on a bit as well - just to give me a challenge! My mare doesn't cost much to keep, her DIY livery is cheap but I'd still struggle to afford two :-(

Well I went through a short stage of having 4, oh my god never again. Still always had two till May when I lost silver, he was quite expensive at the end and I had to take out a loan for vets bills etc. So paying that is like paying his livery for another year. Would far prefer him to be here :(
Buddy is still majorly spoiled though. But again has to be bargain and sale, so yeah you may of got pink rugs for your lads but are they pink and covered in muti coloured stars?! Cheapest mw I could find! :P bargain and stunning haha 7ft if eye popping wonder

We technically have 3 as a family, but I only have one. The other 2 are ponies for my sisters.

One day when I have more money I will have at least 2 :)

Nothing wrong with bargain rugs, tack etc!

I have 2 and it depends what mood im in.

I love them both dearly, and the majority of time i've had horses i've had 2. But this is the first year ive worked outside horses and had 2 on diy.

I enjoy riding them both but sometimes it would be nice to have half the mucking out but i think it makes me enjoy the riing a lot more.

Obviously the cost of everything doubles but i do search out the best price and compare things for cost and quality rather than brands! But they never go without - im just more sensible in buying what does the job both for them and me. But im not afraid to fork out on something which is best.

Its expensive, especially shows but i enjoy it more. Sometimes i wonder if it would be better to devote more time to just one but we shall see.

I have 2 horses and 2 ponies, the only time I ever regretted having 4 was when I had a very heavy cold in the middle of winter. I had to walk to two separate fields where I keep them, it would be easier to keep all together but their needs are different and I cannot provide that in one field walking distance from my house and work.
Mine dont mind hand me downs and second hand stuff, as long as they are in good condition they dont care. And I actually think my shettie loks cute in a pink rug lol

Yes, I am. Usually have three but due to some operations on my leg, I kept only one for 9 months.
The poor horse was sick of the sight of me but had never looked so fit, clean and 'managed'.
He was mightily relieved when another horse arrived to distract me.

Sometimes!
I recently went from 3 to :( The hardest is when more than 1 is in work. I have 2 in work now and aim to work each one 5 times a week. There are 7 days in a week and I work full time......
But I couldn't choose between them so :)

I have 4 - one riding one, a youngster, a pony and a retired poorly one. Buy rugs etc second hand off eBay, as she's still growing and he's turning out to be a rug trasher! I spoil them as much as I can afford but rarely with brand new expensive stuff - sale or new secondhand :) been thinking about getting a new saddle though, his is older than me!
The only thing I don't like about having 4 is farrier bills! Luckily my parents are farmers so I have free grass turnout and stabling :)
