Desperately need rain here. Ground is like concrete and my two have already eaten down their summer grazing to nothing. My younger fatty doesn’t need it but my oldie struggles with forage so needs decent grass. I’d cut his hard food down in anticipation of spring grass but now I’m feeding more again. What I’m really worried about though is a hay shortage. We’re already paying £7 a small bale due to last years shortage.

Looking at the fields of rape around here they are very sparse and straggly looking so it doesn’t bode well for a good yield.

Can't believe it was only 6 or so weeks ago I was wading through mud. Field has a good covering on it - it flooded over winter so I'm guessing the water table is high - but is like concrete and developing big cracks. Where I've moved the electric fencing the grass isn't really growing back. Hay is usually taken off the field I used over winter and by now it normally looks lush - rather barren sadly.

And my veg plot is suffering too.

But the forecast has a bit for tonight so fingers crossed

I know that this is no real consolation but here today and forecast for the next 2 days are for highs in the 90s F or 32 C.
I would love to send you some of the rain we have been getting.

Hay is rapidly running out around here and the field are all bare. Even those without horses on got very wet then suddenly dried out and the grass never even got a chance... it’s missing spring.

Went to see some hunters out on grazing for a friend the other day, they went out at the start of March as usual and are normally merrily piling on the pounds by now.... they were on the leaner side of normal and that’s with round bales in a 20 field. There’s just no grass and nothing in the grass that’s around! Other friends who lamb over a thousand sheep are struggling for grazing for the ewes and having to hay to the point that it’s costing more than the lamb ever will. They will keep feeding them of course but it’s going to be very difficult for then financially if things don’t change ASAP. :(

There’s hope we had a heavy shower last night here in north west and steady rain showers forecast May . Ground still rock hard but at least the grass will start to grow .

*insert stream of expletives here*

The rain keeps disappearing from the forecast. Could be some rain on the weekend. I really hope so! It was supposed to rain today but nope, dry, sunny, and not a cloud to be seen.

We had rain overnight and my garden looks much greener this morning. Just hope it rained as hard 5 miles away where my field is.
Just got back from my sheep and delighted to say we had just as much rain there as here. Every where greener already.
My front lawn where my OH parks his car looks like this.

About 5pm last night the sky turned black and the life giving water fell from the sky. It was like the start of Noah's flood and it was glorious. It feels so fresh this morning and hopefully there was enough that it was able to get deep enough to hold in the ground for a few days and get the hay and crops finally growing. A little more lighter rain forcast for over weekend so everything should start to go green :)

We've had a good innings here!! Devon (East Devon).

Water butts nice & full, grass growing while I was watching it!

F'ing freezing out there now though, more like February than nearly-May!

For the love of god is it EVER gonna warm up?? I've put my thermal jods away twice this year and they're gonna have to come out again now.......

We've had rain today & looking at my phone weather forecast, due some everyday until mid May now. It'll probably turn into a mud bath now ?

I've just walked the dog in my winter coat, country boots and woolly hat. I'm missing the warm, sunny weather already!

It's p@#£%d down all day here and it's not funny any more. Had a lesson this evening and got soaked in spite of waterproof coat and jods. I know we needed it for the ground and grass, but a couple of hours would have done fine!

No, nothing worth mentioning in South Hams (Devon). It has been dark and threatening and very cold, but no rain. Had another emergency hay delivery today, luckily still available locally. However, ponies do look well being on the lighter side.

We've had hails and sleet showers over the weekend with a bit of rain. Raining again today but it is flipping freezing so cant see anything growing unless it warms up ?

No cow parsley growing here either. The verges are normally full of it

Still not stopped here. Fields flooding already so much had fallen with o signs of stopping. It's absolutely freezing so any grass that isnt drowned will be frozen.

Even fat cob got his fleece on when he came in, that's how awful it is ?

Blimey! Sounds vile.
I did pop on B Fuzzys pack a mac tonight and threw a couple of slices of hay into hay bar at the back of the shelter, whereas little A is sporting her grazing muzzle...

Hope it eases enough to soak in TPO x
