Oh the joy!

There was a huge snowdrift against the door this morning, even bigger than the one yesterday. I had to dig around the field gate too so that I could put the horses out. I then dug a nice flat area to put hay on for them and so far they've not touched it as they want to dig down to the grass. Ungrateful rotters. :D

No hope of getting up the driveway, let alone the lane. :(

The stray ginger cat was happy in the hay store this morning, I've not seen the B&W one yet though. I'll put some food by the barn and the hay store, so hopefully they'll both come and eat.

Yup, since Friday morning. I can't get into the barn to feed the horses through the yard door because the drift is over six feet. Luckily the back door is clear, but inside the barn there are five foot snowdrifts. I have drifts four feet high inside their stables too, but luckily they don't live in them.

I can barely stand up in the wind and I'm going stir crazy with not being able to get out. It will be at least another day before the snow blowers get to us, but first of all it has to stop snowing!!

Us too. It hurts your face its so severe!

I was meant to be working on a flight to India today, but can't get to London.
Our front door is unopenable for the depth of snow outside, there is about five feet on the lane and even the discovery is half hidden on the (usually) less snowy lane where we left the cars in the hope of being able to get out! The horses are in, with snow drifts in their stables, despite top doors being shut too! We are just chucking them out twice a day for half an hour while we muck/skip out. The labradors think it is perfect though!

AARGH! I am SO envious. So many people, in the UK especially, have the idea that life in South Africa is endless sunshine. We've got the sunshine today alright... but it's about 38 degrees C in the shade and a brisk hot wind. So no riding, but for a different reason. The past few months in our area we've had either bucketing rain or intolerable heat.

I'd SO love to be in the snow right now.

Warmingham, between Sandbach and Crewe...we have nothing, even the flurry we had yesterday morning has melted!!!
My friend in Alsager 9 miles away has 3ft drifts!!!

Whereabouts in Cheshire are you roughly?

Well Moomin I know I have no-one to blame but myself for living near The Cat and Fiddle :D, but even so masses of the plain seems to be under snow, but obviously it's very patchy. I wondered why I hadn't had a text to cancel the hunt, but I can't believe they'll get the hounds down from Hayfield in this, even if the meet is clear.

What a silly place to live!!;):p

It's gorgeous up there though. Bet it looks stunning all snowy!
I am the opposite side of Cheshire and there's about 3-4inches here.

I can get out of my house, but not to the horse at the top of a hill: the roads are shut!!!

Luckily she is on livery and YO lives on site. I went up last night and, despite top stable doors being shut, there was snow in the stables and in the barn. We should all post picks of out snow drifts :)

Whereabouts are you Fallenrose?

We've had loads here in Merseyside, been the yard and dug out paths so the horses can get seen to. Hope it goes away soon as was beginning to enjoy the nights drawing out and being able to ride outside! :(

Oh yes! Just on the eastern side of the top of the Pennines. I had to lean out over the half door of the kitchen to dig away the drift so that we could get out this morning. We have a drift of over 6ft up the middle of the yard (pics later), fortunately NOT against the stable block door - that's the only way in. We have managed to find a route over the rockery where the snow isn't quite so deep to get to the horses this morning. They are staying in again and are getting rather fed up! Now we just have to make sure that we don't get broken human legs, carrying water buckets over the rockery.
I have to say, I'm quite pleased in a funny kind of way that we are not the only ones with snow in the stables.

Yep plenty of snow and drifts in derbyshire! Had to dig away the snow from my horses stable door in order to get him out or me in!
I have turned him out but there is no point in him digging because he was on a bald patch anyway. So he is stood looking fed up chewing the hedge and I am walking round every 3-4 hours with some more hay for him. Luckily I can walk to him as he is very local as I dare not leave him with a load of hay as he will stuff his face and have nothing left anyway! So better, I feel, to measure out a ration and give him little and often ish...although he would disagree I am sure!
Thoroughly fed up to the back teeth of it all.

It's snowing heavily here but not a flake is sticking :-( If it was sticking, I would guess at about an inch. Sounds quite pathetic when compared to what you guys are getting.

Not snowed in as such, but driving (very carefully!) to the yard this morning, on the little narrow back lane the snow drifts had covered half the road, set my parking sensors blaring! Was very spooky to have snow inches away from the side window! Was praying that nothing came the other way!!

Snow in your stables , that's bad!

My sister lives in SA, we often have discussions about whose weather is the worst :D

I do not think I want to know about the sunny parts of the world as I wrap up yet again to go outside in this east wind!

Snow is still driving across us on Staffs/Ches border but the wind is picking up snow from open places and dumping in lane and drifts just where you do not want them. Normally I can see across Cheshire to Welsh hills quite clearly, but not today.

I am so lucky my neighbour digs our lane out, which is about a mile, and then the main road is usually clear. Just have to negotiate our long steep drive, but not trying today, will settle for snowed in!!:D

Just walked, if you can call it that, through the drifts on the lane to the road, where we and several neighbours, left the cars. There is no chance of moving any of them. The drifts are up to the wall-tops in some places, so although many of the households here have 4x4s, we will have to wait until the plough comes to get us out. Which is a bit awkward when we are not a priority - no where near a bus route.

yup...had to get a friend to do The Cobs this morning, hate having to do that, and I am looking out of the cottage window and it is coming down hard and fast so don't think I will be going very far later either ... bummer.

on the plus side, me and the dogs have had a great game of snowballs in the garden!!! :D
