Anyone else still not rugging yet?

Temperatures are getting down to about 4 or 5 degrees overnight now and I still haven't started rugging. I keep expecting to find my mare cold but every time I check on her she's toasty warm under her (natural) coat. Given that she's at least half TB and doesn't actually have much of a winter coat I'm quite surprised by how well she has coped so far without a rug - I haven't seen another horse out without a rug in my area for about a month now! Is anyone else still to use any rugs?
 
Everything around here is rugged... (oh except one across the road from me but that is a young one and v fluffy!)

My ponio is fully clipped but even if she wasn't I reckon i would have a LW on her by now (to keep her clean if nothing else!!)

But saying that if you're horse is warm enough why bother rugging?!

My wee beastie isn't rugged & won't be until it is wet AND cold.

She looks like a big fluffy ball though.

Yogi on the otherhand is rugged up to his ears. But then I did shave ALL of his own coat off.

They did have rain sheets on a couple of days, but nothing at the moment. Neither is clipped and neither are cold so can't see any reason to do so just yet.
 
My boy has a no fill rainsheet on, but only because we are having a lot of rain around here and he is the biggest wimp in rain, standing in the middle of the field shivering. If it were dry, he would still be nekkid, the temps aren't that cold yet.
 
Only my clipped TB is rug wearing at the moment, shes a little under weight and is a poor doer so she is currently HW with neck hood. It seems to have been really cold around here esp at night.
The ponios and the coblet are big and hairy so they wont have rugs atall

Mine is still completely naked!
He is nice and warm, so I think it might be the end of Nov before he needs anything. If his field had decent shelter I probably wouldn't be putting one on him at all.
 
Mine would still be naked, but I clipped her so now she's just in a no-fill rainsheet, but all the other horses in her field (they're all podgy good-doers) are naked (they're all out 24/7), and then the other horses on the yard have up to a MW on (they come in at night and have pansy owners!)

My appy isn't, she's a wooly bear!! My tb has a thin rain sheet on, and lives out 24/7, and we've got rugs on our 2 veterans (30+)!
 
nope, no rug has touched my boy yet! its to be -2 tonight for us.

He is still hairy, and was living out till last friday as he now comes in at nights. He will be clipped soon though, and then rugged up of course. He has just lived out though for 10 weeks!

Lotties in her MW but Tobys perfectly happy in his own coat. He's got a very low trace and he's sooo gorgeously soft and wooly he doesn't need a rug at all!!
 
I have 2 out of 5 with rugs on so far. Mine are all in at night and none of them are clipped, of the 2 with rugs on 1 is old (25+) and the other struggles to keep weight on. My other 3 are hairy and are maintaining their weight well but they have rugs for when it gets really cold.

mums old still unrugged but dont think I will have the heart to leave her that way much longer...the sect a is like a mammouth he will get a bib clip if he tries disrespecting the elecci fence again but unless its sub zero he wont see a rug...they are all in overnight though

Some are and some arent! Put a rug on one of my oldies today and the fact thet I could catch him when he saw the rug means I think I made the right decision LOL! Dozzie has been rugged for a few weeks now. The rest are still naked. TBH the cold isnt really the issue for mine it is the wind and rain that makes them cold.
 
My TB was out with his no fill turnout until a week ago, when he came in shivering so put his mw on and now he is a little too warm looks like I have to go and buy a lower weight rug, did try putting a another rug under no fill turnout but he likes to roll in the mud and under rug just soaked up the wet.
 
My mares have no idea whether they are coming or going!

Last week temps were dropping to -8C overnight so the skinnies were rugged, today has been tee shirt weather at 18C, lowest overnight forecast is 4C until Friday and days up to 15C, no rain.

Rugs are back on the wall in the barn for now.
 
My boy has MW on at the moment not clipped but he is a pansy and got really cold so had to start rugging him early. IF he wasnt all that cold he would still have LW to keep him cleanish
 
Mums elderly TB is in the MW and she's just nice and toasty.
Ginnys in the LW mainly to keep clean for riding and to keep the rain and wind off her back (she doesn't have much shelter)
The Shetlands are always out rugless

My unclipped welshy is in a lightweight during the day and at night and is just right, my mums mare isn't clipped and feels cold under her medium weight rugs atm (and she has a fluffy winter coat) She's just a total wuss!
 
My skinny tb who is clipped and in work is rugged up and has been for a while as was worried about his condition and he's a nesh little fella. But the big bird is still naked, she's like a furry barrel and doesn't seem at all bothered by any of the weather. Went down in the cold fog this morning and she's fine.

Agree that when it gets cold and wet she'll be rugged.
