Just curious really as he's never been anything but polite (although some might argue that invading space isn't that polite!). Have had my gelding 14 years and he's just turned 17 and he loves doing inhand/groundwork. Sometimes, well most times now, just a bit too much really :-)

He's always been a bit of a space invader but never anything agressive, just likes to constantly push boundaries and he was taught the rules from the get-go - but he always likes to give it a try!

The more groundwork he does the more 'stimulating' he finds it all - heavy breathing, trying to get as close as possible and then his fifth leg makes a healthy appearance and bobs around for the duration of the session. It's not just out and about getting an airing, it's at proper full mast.

Should just say that none of his behaviour worries me as we've been through quite a bit together and I wouldn't change him for the world, nor am I particularly looking for advice. He has also never shown any inclination to cover a mare (although he does appreciate a fine mare or two lol).

Are there any other geldings out there who appear to have found their virtual dangly bits when it comes to inhand/groundwork?

You only have to look at my gelding and his tackle is out. Honestly its out ALL the time at any given opportunity, lol! I always laugh when people say they struggle with sheath and willy cleaning because that is never a problem with my gelding, lol!

Haha, my gelding's the same - perhaps they're all wannabe strippers :-) :-) Always a bit awkward cleaning them on a busy yard when they're at full mast tho!!!!!!!

Friends gelding does it when being groomed or pole work, not just dangle but proper stretch and flex!

Always got the dangly scenario when working my horses in hand. I have never worked out why either. Looking at pictures and videos of horses being worked in hand, none of the ones I ever found did it, why the difference? Added mystery!

Yes :D

I don't really do much close groundwork with my gelding because he finds it all very exciting, and quite apart from the willy wanging, I also get an awful lot of expressive front leg flailing and he grows about 2 hands. In his head he is definitely some kind of wild, noble stallion.... Bless him

LOL - bless!

For mine it is having his back legs groomed and sometimes the top of his tail. Full on willy-whanging at that point. He does really love in-hand work though and he may develop the same habit.

One of the RDA horses dangles any time he is tacked up.

Yep my gelding LOVES groundwork especially anything involving a Trec obstacle. That's because he's been trained with treats (healthy high fibre low sugar) and now associates obstacles/groundwork with cuddles and treats (he's very food orientated). He also stands to attention for mounting and when being clipped... Embarrassing horse...

I just love this thread ;) even though my gelding (thus far) has shown no desire to let me see his dangly bits.....
