Just about to get the horses in at 16.30 when I suddenly heard lots of dog barking and then a hunting horn, followed by shouting, more horns and much calling by hounds. Cue my two horses disappearing at full pelt down the field.... and then back up the field....and then back down the field (ringbone? what ringbone? lol).

Managed to nab one as it paused by the gate, got walked all over, and shoved her in the stable. She has superb manners... except when the hunt is nearby, at which point her brain disappears up her backside and she doesnt 'notice' you at all.

Other horse now going crazy, but miracle of miracles got him too (a bit like trying to lead a giant jack in a box) and have now left them both.... one digging up the stable and the other weaving like a loon.

Food not even being considered so old mare will look like all tucked up tomorrow

. It takes her about 3 days to get over just hearing the hunt.

Anyone elses horse as stupid as mine?

It doesn't have to be the hunt to set mine off!!

We had a sponsored ride go through the other week and they were using the field next to ours for lorries etc The BGL was hunted in his previous home so clearly thought that was what was happening and spent at least an hour prancing around his field showing off all his best moves!!

I tried to ride about 5 hours later and it took me 5 minutes to mount the loon who was bouncing up and down like a jack in a box!

oh yes! i member my mums old horse used to go loopy! twice she jumped the fence and joined in! huntmaster was very nice and knew who she was so returned her! after that he called 2 days in advance to allow us to put her in stable with very loud music on! sometimes my mum gave in and just went with them!

My mare is completely daft when the hunt is around. At the yard she used to be at they hunted all round the stables and fields as it was on a big country estate. On those days she stayed in and I found that Radio1 on loud all day blocked out enough sound to keep her settled. Just so you know the 'dogs' are not dogs they are hounds and they don't bark they 'speak'

Mine goes stupid if I play the hunting horn ringtone

When I was a kid the hunt went past our field and my 12.2 + sisters pony jumped the gate, followed them for a bit, then decided to join the M5 motorway - which was about 3 miles from their field. The police luckily managed to turn them back on the slip road and then shut them in someones market garden.

I was shopping with my mum in the supermarket when the police came and got us.

Also the hunt came past when someone was trying 1 of my instructors horses (we didn't even know they were coming this far over let alone that there even was a hunt

) and she fell off and had to have the air ambulance called
crazy.gif

Then one of the supporters had the cheek to march up our yard and say

"Why would anyone be riding when the hunt was on?!"
In the most patronising, down there nose voice you have ever heard.
My instructor (a seasoned hunter herself) was not amused!

Lol hun I know. I worked as a hunt groom for a couple of years in my youth. Used to enjoy winding up the somewhat pretentious huntsman about his dogs barking back then too

Your horses are not stupid - your local Hunt just needs to learn to treat people with common courtesy.
Ring the Hon Sec and complain - very loudly.
The Masters should have contacted you during the week to let you know they were hunting in your area that day.
I am not an "anti", I have been hunting since 1956 but this sort of rough-shod behaviour makes me see red.
