I was going down to the New Forest to pick up a horse when I was pulled in (At New Park) They checked the Land Rover (Including the diesel) then they checked the trailer. Asked for my driving licence ,name and address. Where I was going and my business.

Many years ago some friends and I got stopped by the police on our horses! I used to live near the Channel tunnel and it was the day the queen opened it. We were riding along the lanes just above the site and the police were doing stop and searches on all vehicles, not quite sure where they thought we'd be carrying weapons? Luckily they had a sense of humour and saw the funny side when we offered to hold the horses heads so they could check the other end for Semtex :D

it does worry me that we will be stopped (I have passed my test and we check the car and trailer regularly) -

But everytime we stop the horse will whinnie until the 'window' is opened up for her to see out!!!

Either that or starts jumping up and down impatiently!!!

My friend was stopped in her lorry.
She had 2 horses on board and was also towing a caravan.
They escorted her to the weigh bridge and she was over the limit. She had to unhitch caravan before carrying on their way.

I've been stopped a couple of times and been treated with courtesy and respect by the officers concerned who were doing spot checks. I don't like it much as you feel guilty even though you haven't done anything wrong  . However I was once stopped by a complete ignoramous and that didn't end well.

Just to finish the tale I had with me a friend, she kept very quiet until they asked her for her details and then she showed them her warrant card. She is a CID officer. We were quickly allowed to go.

Just as well they did not stop us on the way home as the horse we were picking up, the owner had sent all the paperwork home as she was changing jobs so no passport for the Horse

I was once stopped about a year ago when towing with the police officer claiming our tax disc was coming up on his device as out of date (it wasn't). He pursued us for a while until finally asking us to pull over, he then checked the disc and saw it was fine, asked us where we were going and then bidded us a good day. I assumed the tax disc was an excuse to pull us over to check everything possibly. He was polite and respectful about it all, as were we, I assume he was just checking for stolen goods which I have no issue with.

Made me grumpy when you said you were quickly allowed to go, coppers are no different than the rest of us and make mistakes/break the law

I got stopped once on the way back from a show when the police were doing diesel checks. They directed me into a queue, police officer apologised for the wait and said 'but it doesn't matter as you're towing an empty trailer, you're not carrying any livestock.'
I reply 'Yes I am, I have a pony in there.'
Police- 'Are you sure, we can't see its rear end over the back ramp.'
Me- 'Yes I'm sure, you won't be able to see her as she is only 8hh'
I then have to get out and open jockey door to show them that there is indeed a mini Shettie in my trailer  :D On the upside they then let me queue jump so I could get on my way :)

Always get stopped for RBT. One night I was in the middle of nowhere late at night and I got pulled over. The policeman was young and nervous, I was checked for licence/rego/rbt and warned on my speed. I guess he was just getting some practice in.

I used to get really nervous if even sighted a police vehicle, but now I just check my speed as an automatic reaction.

My OH was tailed by a police officer when he was young, for about 10 kms. He was doing all the right things, not speeding etc, but, he got a bit sick of it, and when the police officer eventually overtook him and sped off, he tailed the police officer. The police man got up to 140 kms trying to shake him off, and then (eventually) pulled him over and gave him a speeding ticket. Men

We got stopped by the mounted police whilst on our horses when I was in my teens.

We'd gone for a hack to Bushy Park and were riding through one of the streams when they stopped us as there is a rule about only riding on rough grass areas but it was a regular route for riders in those days, couple of metres of manacured grass to the stream and the same on the other side back onto the rough so a bit harsh to stop us, just a little telling off then they let us carry on our way

My friend had a sedated laminitic on her lorry - on the way to her own yard so she could rehab it as the owners were not in a position to. Anyway, they were going carefully and were pulled over for going TOO SLOW!

Not by police but by horseback park wardens... We were spotted riding on a bit that is out of bounds for horseriders. Just as we were contemplating cantering off and leaving the wardens fir dust my gelding proceeded to have a piddle

... The wardens casually strolled over ... Big fat knowing smiles ... And gave us a telling off. On departing one of them actually said "your gelding there is a bit if a traitor ... We would have never caught up with you "

Yes I know that but her warrant card gave them the information they wanted so no need to hold us up any longer. The vans and lorries in front of us were still there when we left.

I was surprised they did not check my dogs microchip to make sure he was mine and not stolen.

I was stopped dozens of times in my youth, mostly because in those days a young girl riding a large motorcycle was very unusual. The last time I got stopped was years ago now and was for overtaking on a crosshatched area. It was interesting to me that no-one else who did it was stopped by the officers in question but my ex-MIL, whose car I was driving, had been recently making rather a nuisance of herself to the police.

Yup! Spot check for speeding due to residents complaints. They saw the funny side when they realised we were just about 10 yards from my house! Stopped for brake light ( which I was grateful for) and specifically waned not to travel out of London as the traffic police would pick e up in a second. I was a little uneccesary....police should NOT be good looking! And for speeding years ago, went to court as was doing 100.6. No excuses but seriously one of th most scared experience I have ever had. Dragged on for a while but when finally in court got a fine, telling off and points but did not lose my license. That was years ago but never forgot and my cut off now is 85 mph on the motorway.

Many years ago I was in the car with my now husband and it was a Mark II escort with lowered suspension and CB aerial lol.... were going through town when 3 police cars pulled a manoeuvre on us, one slammed infront of us, one alongside and one behind so we were blocked, they got out looked at my husband and said ohhhhhhh sorry we thought you were a disqualified driver! then let us on our way.. How embarrassing in the middle of town!!

We got stopped near Southampton about years 6 ago. We were driving a 3.5T van towing a horsetrailer. They asked to look in the trailer but didn't ask to look in the van. Both were empty as we were collecting a pair of ponies & a carriage the next morning.

Yes--I was speeding (not a lot!) on motorway but pulled over as he could not see my tax disc--it was there!
Also pulled for red diesel check coming away from horse sale--I joked that Morrisons would be in s..t if there was anything wrong with it
Road blocks a few times for escaping prisoners!

a young guy driving seems to arouse suspicion.

Try being a black young man driving a brand new pick up decked out in Ford rally colours, then when asked if the vehicle was his he would say no:rolleyes:........well OH was only telling the truth he was driving my car! He used to get stopped 2 or 3 times a week, dont seem to bother him any more now the pickup is 11 yrs old and has a had life a a work horse, no doubt it will now start getting pulled to check its road worthy, which it is:)

One of my great horsey mates is a copper , great especially when we get hassled by out of control dogs ( with out of control owners! )
