Anyone ever been stopped by the Police

I got stopped by the police towing the trailer with 2 horses in just past Stonehenge a few years ago. It was a boiling hot dayI had been travelling for over 3 hours, I was on my own and had been stuck in traffic for over an hour. The policeman pulled me over just after the traffic started moving. He pulled me because my number plate on the trailer did not match the car, as it is my mums trailer and I had forgotten to put my plate on it before I left. I would not have minded this as I could have stolen the trailer but he kept me there for ages, the horses were kicking the trailer as they were fed up and boiling, I asked if he could hurry up because of this but that annoyed him, and to top it off he never even asked me what the number plate was on the trailer which I could have told him off the top of my head, or who owned it so even if I had stolen it I would have got away with it. Man was I p****d off by the time I left. I had a huge respect for the police before that day but after that my attitude changed dramatically.

Made me grumpy when you said you were quickly allowed to go, coppers are no different than the rest of us and make mistakes/break the law

This made me think the same actually and is annoying. My OH is a copper and he never does this...a bit jobs worth isnt it and yes agree they should be treated the same.

However the reason they are stopping is due to the high amount of theft etc. I have a quad and have been stopped but I suppose as I am married to a boy in blue I fully understand and dont mind....high insurance which we all moan about and the blooming inconvenience if we lost our tractors/trailers etc etc rural crime. I am sure there was something on the news etc that there was a bit of a campaign to stop heavy machinery etc due to high theft. If its not nailed down it might go!

Am surprised that people get annoyed to be stopped they are checking and they are damned if they do and damned if they dont! If you have a mismatched number plate it might be stolen(as on previous post) so why be annoyed even if its a hot day.Well spotted by cop, only doing his job. Our local rural merchants lost a new delivery of Ifor Williams trailers and my neighbour too off their driveway..pinched. Glad they check even if its to see if the vehicle is roadworthy. etc

Thankfully I've never been stopped whilst driving! My car has a few injuries so I think police are probably a bit suspicious of it but when they see a young woman driving it they aren't so worried!

I have been in the car when other people have been pulled over twice. Once my OH's brother had just picked up his 'new' car and was driving home. He had set the insurance to start at a very specific time which had only passed by about 10 minutes when the police pulled us over saying it was uninsured. Luckily he had all the papers saying it was and they let us go.

A second time was with my parents coming up the motorway towards home. Policeman on a motorbike pulled us over because we pulled in too close in front of someone! He was clearly bored!

I was always getting pulled over by the Police for stop checks when my friend and I used to come home across the moors at about 3am after been out clubbing. I used to look very young for my age and had a flashy Opel Manta (well it was the 1980s), we used to have a bet on whether I would get stopped for routine checks. It did get rather boring almost every weekend without fail!!

My friend had a sedated laminitic on her lorry - on the way to her own yard so she could rehab it as the owners were not in a position to. Anyway, they were going carefully and were pulled over for going TOO SLOW!

Same here. Nightmare, I had a horse on trial which basically couldnt stand up in the trailer. I was taking him back to his bully of an owner who kept phoning me and screaming down the phone at me as to where I was . I was pulled over and breathalysed. It was the scariest thing ever as it was 5.30am and I had been out the night before - no alcohol registered though as I was really careful. Worst thing is they stopped me in a tiny layby of a dual carriageway and there wasn't time to get up speed to pull out.

Still totally paranoid about the police now.

And for speeding years ago, went to court as was doing 100.6. No excuses but seriously one of th most scared experience I have ever had. Dragged on for a while but when finally in court got a fine, telling off and points but did not lose my license. That was years ago but never forgot and my cut off now is 85 mph on the motorway.

Are you kidding?? You got done for speeding, said how scary it was and then openly admit that you are still speeding???!!!!

i tavelled down to the lakes a few years ago to collect a puppy. I decided to drive home through the night rather than stay over. At the time I had a silver transit style van, all caged out for my dogs in the back. I was merrily driving up the motorway, under the speed limit , singing loudly to my abba cd when 2 police cars pulled out of nowhere, lights and sirens on and pulled me over:eek::o I was absolutely bricking it I can tell you, it was about 3am ! They approached with torches and checked my liscence and asked me what I was carrying - i said meekly, 'a puppy' ! They made me stay put while they searched the van and duly found ikkle Diva pup in one of cages in the back. They were very polite and I think could see I was fairly freaked out and wished me well and set me off on my way again. Turns out there had been a shooting from a silver van earlier on the motorway:eek:

I got pulled by our local plod for riding my bike on the pavement with no lights a couple of years ago. Missed my train, so it was dark. Surely the pavement was safer than the road! It is a rural area, and there were no pedestrians. Luckily I know her, so she just milked the opportunity to treat me like a teenager.

OP. Do they have the right to ask you your business? Call me a chippy old mare, but that's the kind of thing that gets my back up. My business is lawful, and it is private.

Been stopped loads of times over the years.

Two notable occasions: When I was 17, I was riding my motorbike, from my house, to a friends, about 12 miles away. Stopped about a mile from my house, bike checked over and given 'a producer' (a little pink form, demanding you take all your document to the local Police station within seven days). This was not that unusual, so carried on. Long story short, by the time I reached my friends house, I had FIVE producers

I took my documents to the local nick the next morning and handed over the first 'pink' and my documents. The desk Sergeant (remember them?) looked everything over and said all was fine, so I asked "what should I do with these?" and put the other four pinks down; " Oh for F'cksake!" was the reaction, so I smiled and left.

A few years ago I used to drive a 1966 ex-drag race Ford Mustang. It had massive back tyres, a roll cage, the lot. Coming (rumbling) home for a little run round, I suddenly realised I had a 'jam sandwich' following me. I drove home carefully indicating and keeping to the speed limit, but he was still there. Eventually I arrived home and backed the Mustang onto the drive. The jam sandwich pulled up in front of me, so I switched off and hopped out. The driver of the JS jumped out and said " mate, I LOVE your car, can I have a look". We did the bloke thing, looking under the bonnet and all the rest. In the end, he took it for a quick blast round the block, while I waited and chatted with his partner. By the sound of it coming up the road, he was NOT sticking to the speed limit as he returned :D

I used to get stopped a bit when I was younger - got stopped when I was about 19 for not wearing a seatbelt and ended up in a short-lived relationship with that Police Officer when we saw each other at our mutual gym about a week later!
Got stopped at a drink drive checkpoint and also at a routine car check thing where they check the roadworthiness of your car. Haven't been stopped in the horsebox but I wouldn't have a problem if they did stop me - I would rather they were checking out things rather than ignoring them.
Whereas Highways Agency jobsworths......don't get me started on them!!

Years ago my brother and I had mopeds, his was just 1 digit different to one on a police 'hit' list. We lived 1/2 a mile from police HQ. He would get pulled every day without fail/ In the end my parents had to make a complaint. He got pulled 50 times in 2 months and was always being late for work because of it.

Eventually we graduated to 100cc bikes. One day we went to visit granny who lived 1 junction up on the motorway. The police pulled us, they thought we were on mopeds, pointed out both 100cc and both had passed tests.

Next they said both bikes were emitting blue smoke.....yes, they are 2 stroke and burn oil! I said. Oi lad don't be cheeky he said, I removed helmet to reveal that I am a young girl with masses of blonde curls.

Next nast copper catches hold of the handlebar nearest him, determined to find something wrong. He pulled in the lever and pushed the bike forward (we had been made to dismount and move away by this point) He then started to write stuff down and said he was going to book me for having a defective brake. He was VERY unimpressed when I told him he was pulling the clutch lever in and if he wanted to test the front braake he should try the other side!!!

Ahhhh, I got pulled by one of those coppers when I was 17. He followed me home when I was riding a 250cc Royal Enfield (a real one, not an Indian one). When I took my helmet off he ran up and accused me of taking my older brothers bike out (I don't have a brother, older or otherwise).

It was just starting to get a bit nasty, with the copper accusing me of all sorts, when my dad (a senior bank manager) came down to the garage and asked me what was going on " this Policeman is accusing me of taking my big brothers bike". My dad told the copper not to be so bl**dy stupid, that the bike was mine and that I had restored it from a rusty wreck :D

The copper tried to get all friendly and pally, but beat a hasty retreat when my dad (who was far from a tough guy) suggested it might be a good idea if he left.

Don't get me started with the police. I have all the respect in the world for the traffic police who have always treated me with the upmost respect- Lothian and Borders traffic division actually have a brilliant relationship with us Edinburgh 'car enthusiasts' - it's the 'panda' driving lot I can't stand.

I have MANY stories I could tell you but one sticks in my mind- driving home after work at about 3am in the morning along the bypass, driving at about 80mph, when a car came right up my backside -
Didn't overtake, just sat up my arse in the slow lane. I pulled over to fast lane, it followed, pulled over again, still up my backside. Tried to slow down, it slowed down. So I sped up, a bit scared by this point. It sped up. I eventually came off at a junction, so did it, right up my backside. 19 year old girl by herself, I was getting more shakey. It started flashing me while sitting about 10 inches of my bumper. By this point I'm driving as quick as I can trying to get rid, whilst trying to get my phone out mu bag to phone the police. For about 10 minutes they chase me up to a residential area where I slow down (obviously) and they 'box' me in - well it was two off duty police officers trying to get me to pull over. Why? Tried to get me into the back of their OWN car to
Book me - well my mobile was out my bag and I was on the phone to the police before they could touch me. I'm in tears ( wuss) police arrive, they try to tell them to get me done- well the traffic officer went completley off his head, and I was driven home
As I was in that much of a state. Don't know what came of them though!

I get stopped all the time though- ever since I was 18 I've been driving Evos and subarus

STUPID PHONE!

Subarus and highly modified cars of my mates ( always insured!) I've got a Type R now but police still seem to think I'm too young to drive that at 22!!!

Made me grumpy when you said you were quickly allowed to go, coppers are no different than the rest of us and make mistakes/break the law

The amount of arguments I have had with OH over this, not that OH actually breaks the law but whenever we have affectionate bickerings over speed etc his answer is "I'm police aren't I" then I launch into a long tirade about how corrupt the cops are yada yada yada.:D
However sometimes there has to be a plus side for a guy who spends a great deal of his day viewing bodies, pulling people out of fires or car wrecks or dealing with tortured animals....so his wc makes him feel important and acts as a lubricant for getting out of awkward moments quicker than everyone else, I suppose I say fair deal ...

I was stopped once driving my husbands car home from a family party with my little girl who had got tired and needed her bed. It was nearly xmas and they were checking for drink drivers, I was so nervous I babbled on and on at the poor police woman, lord knows why as I hadn't touched a drop of alcohol...i just felt really guilty!!! She said she couldn't smell alcohol asked whered I'd been and let me go, I tried to pull away, put the wipers on instead of the indicator, accidently put on the full beam and dazzled the poor woman then stalled!! They still let me go though!!

Got stopped years ago on the way to AHT with my horse who was booked in for surgery. It was a DVLA operation with the police and I must say they were great. We showed them the hospital paperwork and they let us on our way. Heart sank when they stopped us as we were directed into a lorry park with god knows how many vehicles already in there waiting for checks. Must admit I did panic as thought we were going to be late for my horses appointment.

I even had my finger prints taken at age 13! Our school got burnt down and we had to file in be interviewed in the school hall at any chosen table..obviously we went for the most good looking officers.

Turned out it was a real posh boy(for a state school he was posh) who was really brainy and not the little naughty usual suspects!

You never know..I often wonder if my prints are on file when I read all the people objecting to having ID DNA on file! I only wonder in case I commit a crime that they will find me very fast if I try to evade capture.

I was stopped once for a breatherliser unknown to me they were following and i was driving my work van well its full of tools and junk went over a bump well it started rattling and making a metalic noise so i sweved a couple of times to try and settle it which it did then another noise.... blues and two's.. A friend was always getting stoped he drove like a loon once he was stoped for speeding .....in reverse !!!! another time we were in scotland on the A9 between perth and inverness he was towing an argocat which is like a 8 wheel atv only light so we had a fair head of steam up and were overtaking most other cars at upto 100 ish mph in places this is with a toyota gt 4 celica, anyway behind was a blue cavalier who was keeping up and driving close anyway friend says im sick of this barstewerd and braked sharpley cavalier brakes shaply drops back then blue lights from the grille so we stoped copper comes up and says do you know how fast you were going ?? friend comes straght out with do you always drive that close , copper says slow down and returns back to his car and drives off!!!! the best one was I was driving a LHD merc had another friend with me who was map reading anyway coppers overtook and stoped us copper came up to what he asummed to be the driver friend winds down the window ands copper asks do you know its dangerous to read and drive then sees me im grining and holding the wheel oh sorry lads and of he goes..

I got pulled over the evening of the day I passed my test.

I was in the high street of my local village, in my dressing gown getting ready for a night out, driving my Ka, feeling very proud of my first Chinese pick up run!

The copper pulled me, and I panicked. He was very nice, and asked me if I had forgotten anything.........terrified I stuttered about forgetting my new test certificate, and having handed in my license to the examiner, and that I knew I should have gotten properly dressed, was it illegal....etc etc.

To which point he said...

" No, calm down love. You were in the Chinese before me- would you like your debit card back?"

That happened to my OH. He used to have a Mark II Ford Escort which he has completed overhauled and put in a V8 engine and sprayed the car tango orange.

He kept getting pulled by the old bill just so they could check out what was under the bonnet! :D

Your friend sounds like a complete idiot and shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel of a vehicle.

Ha! Ha! Yes! I was stopped when driving a Transit horsebox some years ago. 1 horse up and a dodgy spring so box was leaning. Copper pulled us over on a dual carriageway. Now my old horse was never happy unless the box was on the move so started to throw himself around and bang on the floor. Copper asked what we had in the box..LOL! We pointed out the HORSES sign on the front and said " Ummmm...a horse...." LOL! We then asked him if he would like to check...Box was now stationary but rockling violently from side to side...he declined LOL! He then said why was the box leaning (it actually had a dodgy spring) and we said...well we have only one horse on board...so c said why is it leaning to that side then...because the horse is on that side...if we put him the other side it would lean the other way...LOL! My friend then said" Oh look, here comes another box with only one horse...if you would like to step out into the middle of the dual carriageway you will noticce it is also leaning to one side...It was funny. He than asked us where we were going. We said the next county. You could see his relief tbh. He didnt say well F off there then but you could sort of read between the lines LOL! Lucky my friend was a very glamourous Essex girl! Gift of the gab and all that! LOL!

I was stopped a few years ago bringing a friend's horse back from Leahurst late at night in a horse box.

In a way I was pleased he stopped us particularly because there had been a few horse thefts reported in weeks leading up to this incident and they'd been taken during the night.

Yes possibly but he is safer at 100 than most people are at 50!! he did the lombard RAC rally 3 times as a private entry when it was a propper rally in the late 80s, was national grp n champion amongst other victorys , once we were taking his mums car to get some shopping for her came down the main road near the house at about 50mph came round a corner there is a car on its roof he threw the car sideways and we stoped with a few feet to spare anyone else would have plowed into it, there was a girl trapped and we managed with some passers by to free her... yes he drives too fast even now but you tell me who you would prefer to be with, someone who is in control of a car over the speed limit or a poor driver under the limit who hasnt a clue what to do when something goes wrong???? remember most acidents are the result of poor driving and lack of skill :D

I've been stopped twice for going too slowly :-D, and once for - well, I don't know what exactly I was supposed to have done wrong. The cop who stopped me told me that he wasn't going to book me, but obviously thought I had done something wrong enough to warrant some kind of charge. He didn't explain,(although there were many words they didn't seem to make a coherent message of any kind) and having heard the words '...not going to give you a ticket...' I wasn't about to argue the toss. Would be nice to know exactly what he wasn't booking me for, though.

Mind you he was such a pompous git I now have a real attitude towards the police in general which is a pity!

You deserve the book to be thrown at you then, if you think that it's still OK to travel on the highway 15 miles an hour over the limit.....
