Anyone Fancy a Boring Baydale Day?

PapaFrita, it's incredible how resilient animals can be, isn't it? H and I joked that this foal will have to be called Lucky.
wink.gif

madhossy, Twiglet - I guess H now has to try to claim off the VW driver's insurance as, if you look at it from our point of view, we were driving along, minding our own business blah blah....
crazy.gif

fingers_crossed - no no, I agree wholeheartedly with how lucky I am, and H, Hattie and baby Hats would agree, I'm sure.
smile.gif

FigJam - I'm shocked that you think so badly of me you were expecting a "Flying Baydale" or "Baydale Crash Landing" story, when I haven't been near a horse in a riding way since Thursday, nor will I until a week on Thursday when I see my consultant.

And yesterday was me taking it easy, honest guv.

You just can't do anything without drama can you?!!

Haven't read through all the replies I'm afraid but, as I said last night, I'm just so relieved and delighted, and just a bit gob-smacked, that you are all ok... I do hope Hattie's recuperation is smooth and that her foal is A-OK, please let us know as soon as you have news. Hugs to you and Helen on the most ghastly shock- thank God it looks like broadly-speaking happy ending

God almighty! What a horrible story, reduced me to tears in the office.

So pleased Mum and her Baby look to be OK, and fingers crossed that Mum's jaw mends quickly and well.

Lots of best wishes vibes to everyone involved. What stars the man with the trailer and his stepdaughter were!
grin.gif

I feel sick just reading that

What an awful awful thing to happen. Thank goodness that H did have some company. Poor poor mare, but how brave to walk straight onto another trailer. I hope that she isn't too sore and recovers from her ordeal and of course has a healthy baby still safely inside.

There are lovely people out there that go above and beyond in situations like this - and I thank them all too. Without that sort of spirit this country would be in a terrible state
crazy.gif

Hope you feeling better. When I PM'd you to find out if you had been up to anything exciting with your new bionic arm I never expected this!

Hmmm... we believe you...!
wink.gif
Glad to hear Hattie and mini-Hattie are doing well so far and I hope they continue to do so. That foal will definitely feel extra special!

Good luck with the insurance claim, I'm sure I've heard that for rear-impact stuff, the blame is always placed with the back vehicle, as they should have been a safe distance from the vehicle in front. Hope you don't suffer any whiplash in the next day or two either to add to your injury list.

2010 is definitely going to be your year!

Jesus, Nicky, if that was a quiet day out I would hate to have an adventure with you!

I believe in the law of 3's.

That's it now you have had yours this year and hopefully for a good few years to come.

Hattie sounds a total superstar. Vibes for the baby - it will be a very special foal having survived that.

Hope Helen os OK and all the paperwork gets sorted asap.

And a huge karma thank you to the people with the pony in the trailer.

OMG what a nightmare! I've just seen your post and all I can say is it must have been absolutely terrifying.

So glad you and your friend were unhurt and I hope the mare recovers well (and foal is fine).

That sounds like the most terrifying experience! Thank God you were with your friend. I hope that the mare continues to make a good recovery (a very brave pony indeed!) and that her foal is OK.

Bloody hell girl! I always worry about someone rear-ending my trailer but have never heard of it happening to anyone I know so consoled myself with the thought that it must be a very rare occurrence.

Would it be any good at all to ask you to stay at home with a good book and a cup of tes for the next couple of weeks?

Pass on my best wishes to all involved and fingers crossed for mare and foal. I will excuse your lack of technical terminology on this occasion!

What a horrific ordeal. Glad everyone is doing OK and lots of vibes for Hattie & baby Hattie. It really does make your blood run cold.

Thistle - you sound like my mum

about things happening in threes, so I'm expecting that to be my run of bad luck all done and dusted. I'll put you on my long list of people who don't want days out with me, Nicky NoMates.

Gamebird - ISZ has already suggested I don't do too much over the next week, so Equine Biomechanics for Riders and Chris Bartle's Training the Sport Horse will get my full attention.

rubyredshoes - yes, that was us; I did wonder whether anyone horsey may have been passing

Bloody hell Baydale - am glad everyone's relatively ok and that Hattie' still munching, what a brave girl. Fingers crossed for a happy healthy foal too

QR what a horrible thing to happen, no wonder you are feeling queasy. Hope Helen is feeling a little better and paper work is getting sorted. Horses are such amazing creatures, tucing in to her straw with a broken jaw! Hope things continue to go well with the foal.

As previously mentioned, OMG!!!!!! as the kids say.

Could go either glass half full or half empty, but I prefer to think you have had stellar luck in less than advantageous circumstances. I'm sure Helen would have coped but still, it was good you were there to provide a calming influence. (Left over GA perhaps? Or just good in a crisis. That's my thing - great if something is bleeding or on fire, crap at the every day.
wink.gif
) Just think, if J hadn't whacked you, you never would have been there to catch the mare and lend a very needed helping hand. (Sorry.
wink.gif
)

Lots of vibes . . .

But I'm sure you'll understand if I just stand waaaaaaaaaay over here.

teapot - Hattie Update: she is now munching determinedly through her bed AND her haylage now.
laugh.gif

alwaysbroke - my appetite is coming back now thanks (I knew it wouldn't be long
wink.gif
) and this post has lightened the mood a lot, thanks for all the support peeps.

TS - that's me, useless on a daily basis but fab with your out-of-the-ordinary dramas/crises. Are we still on for the EHOA clinic then, or has something really important you have to do cropped up?
tongue.gif

starman - someone (a bloke) once said that most women were steely on the outside but soft in the middle, but I was the opposite. I took that as a compliment...
smirk.gif

Blimey Charlie thank goodness you are all OK. What a lovely mare to be so calm. If its any consolation I had a mare end up in Leahurst last year 2 weeks after being covered. She had 2 general anaesthetics and was sedated every day for 10 days. We were advised the foal would probably absorb. BUT we got a bouncing filly foal this year who was worth all the stress.
I so hope you have the same outcome.
P.s. she is called Odds Against

Of course. What could possibly go wrong (horses, alcohol, cold weather, middle aged people let off their leashes for a day . . . . . .)?

Read this on H's FB didn't realise it was such a bad accident & that you had to be there too!

Glad all are doing OK at the moment. Tell H to use the Arnica & she can get some broken bones fron Xgates like you have unless you share your's out!!

Well done Hattie, sounds like the poor mare was in shock which may of helped subdue her a little.
