Anyone got any pics of their TBs with long manes?

And here is the very pretty poppet with a long mane although you cant see it much

Mine is turned away for injury and living out 24/7 so I figure he needs the extra layer at the moment but itching to get the solocomb out.

All mine are living out for one reason or another. The miles mane doesn't grow and the 2 natives look fab with a big thick long mane but my lightweight wb (often mistaken for a TB ) looks awful with his stupidly thick mega long fraggle hair !!! I hate him looking like that as he has a little neck too so he just looks shocking and I'm far too ashamed to put a pic on but he is retired and hates his mane being pulled so I try to turn a blind eye to it

I know its personal opinion, and of no importance to the wellbeing of the horse, but I do think thoroughbreds with manes left to grow long look absolutely dreadful, no exceptions, sorry!!!

I thought that I would think that, but actually, all of these horses look great with long manes. Probably because they have finer manes and it doesn't look bushy?

Totally stunning picture, and the mane adds to the effect.

Thanks to everyone who has posted pictures of their lovely TBs. I do think that some horses look best with short manes and others with long. I like a really short mane on my mare, but my boy looks awful with it really short. He is looking lovely at the minute with it an in between length. He has a really thick neck, huge chest and nine inches of bone, which for a 16.1 hh TB is quite a lot. I will get some photos and post them up to see what people think. :)

My tbx had a long mane. It was lovely. Her loaner pulled it and she looked nice with it pulled but in a different way.

All of mine have long manes now, 3 natives plus a paint horse, all of which are "meant" to have long manes. I don't think any of them look scruffy due to their manes. The mud and other unmentionables, maybe :o

I don't like long manes on TB's, I like them neat and short. I think it makes them look ratty and unkept with long manes, no exceptions. Same with wb's and any finer sports horse.
Long manes should be reserved for natives and Spanish horses imo.

This is total ignorance because I am new to horse ownership and have an Arab, but is it just fashion why Arabs and PREs get flowing manes and tails and any other horse has to get rid of it?

I am in a lovely yard where my Arab is a bit of an odd and loved curiousity that no one else would dream of buying, all the rest Irish Sports Horses and ponies, very pulled and clipped. I am so glad I have an Arab so excusable to grow although the yard owner crops his tail every so often and thinks I haven't noticed!

Even pre. Just don't like long manes. My retired mare has hers neatly pulled and thinned just like my tb. Cob is hogged. Personal preference but so much smarter imo.

;) My horse, but before I had her. Mane is even longer now, her forelock is to the end of her nose.

Unless a mane is good and thick I would rather keep it shorter when a horse is in work, thin straggly manes are neither here nor there.

Oooh, that would not make me happy as you need the long tail to match the long mane.

Have you looked at the rules for showing arabs? They're great - no shaving whiskers etc... although I'm not a fan of the extended bridlepath.

I like long manes they give a horses appearance some character. I don't care for the militarian short and boring look, makes them all look the same.

I really don't like hogged manes, I think they're nasty. But I wouldn't go on a thread of people showing off their hogged manes to announce that!?

Oh, but I would - no manners at all. I'd probably make a snide comment about pulling the hairs out of the owners too ;-)

Loving the furries on this thread. Am an Arab fan myself and generally don't enjoy looking at TBs... hadn't realised how much of that was down to the haircuts! Some of these are GORG-E-OUS!

Our old orange boy (sadly no longer with us) was also a candidate for 'worst forelock ever':

It was pull his mane and die, basically, so we never bothered. Sometimes we'd take scissors to it :strikemedownnow: but mostly we'd leave him hairy.

We've just got his mate left now out of our TBs. His mane gets to here and then stops:

He's retired too but has a very important babysitting job to do and is worth his weight in gold:

My 9yr old mare has a long mane purely because she's been a broodmare for the last 5yrs and I've only had her a few months and haven't done much with her. It will be coming off soon though, although I have to say it does suit her long. :)

Here is Bo-donkadonk on the day I got him after 3 years in a paddock (I had to crop the photo to cut out the grass belly! He looked 6 months pregnant)

About 3 months after I got him and I think he was a bit embarrassed because of all the pink, little sod wouldn't stand still (hence the blurry)

Aaannnddddd about 4 weeks ago... I had to pull it, I was too lazy to plait the whole lot of it!

That mane is stunning. Love it. I agree, and normally I would be the first to get the solo comb out. But he has such a thick mane and a huge deep neck that a short mane looks awful on him. I have never had a TB that was so thick set (though not through the jowl thankfully).

He's got a nice thick and wavy mane though. I think it suits him long.
