i got one coming up...weather permitting! feel bit nervous, what if he really plays up or i fall off! or if they are not very nice, thats my worst fear... if they are really harsh or pushy!
Yep, I won a lesson with a pro from Horse mag. I was nervous too but it was fab - the best thing I've ever done. Agree with MQ - sure they will be lovely, whoever it is. Have fun
most def not!!! new ish horse, i'm bit of a wimp jumping wise and if we dont get our jumping sorted (sorry if i dont get my jumping sorted!!!) my horse will soon dis own me as a total numpty!!!
I used to ride for Tim Stockdale, I fell off once which was enough! Dont think about things going wrong and your there to learn so if they do its not the end of the world.
I had one from Geoff Billington and it was ok. If I'm honest though, the money i spent on that I could have had 4 lessons with my normal instructor. Have fun though
Oh, you'll have fun! I had one with WFP and it was good. I dont think I learned as much as I would have done with my regular instructor (as she knew my horse and what we were working on etc) but it was definatley a good experience. Dont worry about it, most of these people have taught a variety of levels and abilities before.
Used to have training sessions with Steven Hadley on the bolshiest, rearing mare on the planet, but he was really understanding and said the mare was bored so he whacked up the fences. She jumped. I jumped and was impressed as she is only 15 hands.
i had a lesson from tim stockdale, and i rode better than i ever have, he really made me think, and you do anything wrong he doesnt shout as such, but makes you realise you have done it wrong, i would go back for a lesson with him anytime, he is really good.
i wouldnt be nervous as these people are giving your their advice and they are at the top of their game, and they are not there to be nasty, they are just human like the rest of us.
enjoy the lesson and take as much as you can from it.
I had a lesson with Alex Peternell and fell off at his feet! Genie bucked a few times, and he turned around and there I was feeling a bit of a ninny as her bucks are usually fine to sit to. Was a really good lesson though!
My instructor events at top level though she is not a well known name. To me she is just a very down to earth person and a brilliant instructor. Don't think it matters what their name is, it is what they are like as an instructor that matters. Have fun x
Yep. I have had lessons from a few 4* event riders (including 2xolympians) and worked for one for a season. I have also had a lesson an international dressage rider. Some are excellent, but some show their talent is in riding, not teaching
They are just people who are very good at what they teach at the end of the day, so don't be nervous!!
Millie and Little Jockey had a Lesson with Rosie Thomas last year, not as high profile as some of your instructors though but she still knows her stuff.
It was Millies first ever lesson and apart from pulling a few faces it went pretty well!

completely irrelevant, but his son is married to my friend
soooo jealous of some of you, but i think WFP would probably laugh at me and pony! Would LOOOVE to have a lesson with him or Mary King, reckon she'd be lovely!
i reguarly have them with pro riders through the pony club... all our ace! especially our SJer, hes more like a big bro to me now!
Have been taught so much by them, we have amazing instructors in out pony club, most of them pro and they are all SO nice!
i have had a pro eventer, pro showjumper and pro dressage for camp and even though they are specific for a discipline, they were amazing at teaching the other disciplines, like the dressage rider took a lot of schooling ideas and put them into my jumping to help my horse settle in a round.
Good luck and have fun!
I doubt they would be harsh or pushy as they have a reputation to protect, and their livelihood depends on that reputation. At the end of the day, you are a paying customer. But these people are at the top because they 'know their stuff', so my advice is mouth shut, ears open, and absorb evey word they say. I am blessed to keep my horse at a friend's yard who is an Olympian, and of course a normal person. But they really really know their stuff, so i try to pin my lug holes back as much as i can and take in everything they say to me. Do put a post on here to let us all know how it went - you'll have a brilliant lesson, will ride better than ever, and will be buzzing for weeks !
I have had a few from showing people and dressage riders all have been great and really helpful and understanding, even going with a HW cob for a dressage lesson with a pro!!!
I used to have SJ lessons with James Fisher and Paul Crago many years ago! They were great, didn't suffer fools but really got the best out of me and my horse (even though I was not a pro). I also had a lot of help from Keith Doyle when I used to work for him. He'd be my choice now.
