Hi,

Just wondering if anyone here has a Thoroughbred? I just have the one Thoroughbred, Hank who raced as Ace's Spirit, who is 17 yrs old, 15.2hh and retired with a clicking knee.

Would love to read about the Thoroughbreds who belong to other people here.

My sister on her ex-racer. He's brilliant! He's 11, 16.3hh and generally a star- she's worked so hard with him and the results are really beginning to show :)

(Please excuse my position!)

Thank you for the great replies and super photos. My observation is that Thoroughbreds don't seem to be as popular in the UK as they are in Australia. I guess it's because in Australia, we can keep them on 24/7 turnout if we wish and that keeps them more relaxed.

I currently have 3!

Harry who is 7 tomorrow! Came out of racing last summer.

Jem who is rising 11, and is being aimed at BE novice ths season.

And Millie who competed at CCI* in her day. She is now a broodmare, with her first foal gaining a First Premium at the BEF Futurity. Her second foal is due in May.

Bloody hell he raced? I thought I was the only person in the world who could have a TB in such "good" condition!!

He looks fantastic! What do you feed?

Yes, it's amazing the difference in how relaxed Reg is when he can be out 24/7 (ie not atm, as the snow and ice mean the grass is lacking somewhat! Need some sunshine...)

I have one... Rising 5... He went for pre race training when he was three but didn't make it so was sold a few months later... I bought him as a sorry mess early last year...

Rather green and a bit immature but an absolute sweetheart... Although I was looking for a plod so totally unsuitable and I don't ride him... Duh... :D

He'd have forty fits at the idea of 24/7 turnout all year round... Comes in at night at the moment and I'm aiming to get back out 24/7 next month if the weather warms up a bit and the ground improves...

That was back in 2005. He wasn't as big as he looked as he is a big barrelled sprinting type. I had owned him for five months at the time and had only just finished the process of building up his weight. He nearly died of starvation with his previous owner. (Her other horse is rumoured to have died.) Although he had gained some weight before I bought him, he was still underweight, covered in welts and lame. I have other photos taken in the same session where you can clearly see his ribs. He was on 24/7 turnout and was being fed 2kg of Weight Lifter Calm. It gets fed to a lot of show horses here in Australia to build them up. That photo was taken in June and that is about as hairy as he gets in winter. Cheers

My lovely filly (who is actually a mare now, will have to think of something else to call her!) I've had her since she was rising two and she's nearly four now :)

Yes five raising six now came out of training because he napped so badly he is absolutely lovely the most unnappy ( don't think that's a word) Baby horse I have ever had I can't think what was going on on training that made him so cross he's fabulously talented on the flat ( dressage I mean not running fast !)
And people are always mistakeing him for a warmblood or a warmblood / TB don't know what we will do with him it was intended to send him eventing but he loves the flat work so much it almost seems a shame.
IT challenged or I would add photo

Thats my girly!! ^^^^^(sorry about the size!) Tudor Rose II (Rosie) 15.2 ex-hurdler 20 years old. Did BSJA BN and Disco but now living the good life and just playing in the field and gentle hacks. She's not your typical ginger mare, although she can have her moments! She's very sweet, loving and gentle! But she is a speed demon!

Here's me on my guy.

He's fab, hes rising 7 and we do a bit of everything. Hacking, British Dressage, SJ, Riding club, low level british eventing and unaffilliated showing and ror. He's a fab horse, brave, beautiful, athletic and versatile :). Love him!!!

My mum also has one too. He is rising 10 and he has beautiful paces and manners, He's a great hack and dressage horse and is currently learning to jump :).

Apollo. Bred to race on a Cypriot race track, I don't even want to know the hell he went through there. He's 16.1 hh and about 13 years old :) We also own a 16.2 hh grey thoroughbred who's 16

Thoroughbreds are my absolute favourite, even though I will probably never ride one (too fat, too chicken lol) but both my daughter's horses are ex racer Tbs so I get to look after them most days. To me Tbs have such a lot of heart, and they're so wonderfully athletic I never get tired of watching them.

This is Bella, she's 8, we've had her since she was 3. When we got her she was really skinny and about 15.2, she grew to about 16.2 and is built like a tank lol. She's currently turned away in the hope we can find the right home for her as things didn't work out with my daughter. It's a shame because she will pretty much jump anything from any angle you care to put her to it, but it takes a lot to keep her focused on the job.

This is Basil, he's 12, we've had him for about 9 months, he's 15.2,. He's a really kind, good minded fella yet he has a real spark to him out hacking and jumping and he''s done wonders to restore my daughter's confidence.

We have 2, a rising 27 year old who raced, point-to-pointed and then hunted until he was 19 (he's arthritic but as good as ever!) and a rising 9 year old who is being brought on for eventing and doing really well considerung his mixed upbringing.

Love them! Would have a thoroughbred any day. Brave, versatile and always a little spark to keep you on your toes :)
