Just trying to get ideas, I'm with Animal Friends, but not sure I've made the right choice as I've heard a few mixed reviews....Had a quote from SEIB but not sure what they're like!

absolutely brilliant! I've been with them many years with several different horses. Unfortunately I've made a LOT of claims and they have always been fabulous

I'm insured with SEIB and they were brilliant at paying out 5k for my mare's tendon injury. I just sent vet's bill to them and they paid them directly.

SEIB are brokers - but they are also the liable party and the party you deal with if there is a claim. We've been with them for various policies over 10 years and they have always been great. On occasion KBIS came up cheaper for some horses (and once the NFU did) but SEIB have always been the most competitive for the trailers.

Thank you shay, handy to know :)

They've paid up a lot without a quibble over the last few years without a for my lovely TB. When I had to have him PTS there was a hesitation as it didn't directly meet the BEVA guidelines but within 48 hours they'd agreed, and the amount I requested as his value wasn't disputed - just been notified that payment is on it's way, all within 3 weeks (and this was over Christmas & New Year). Their quote for my new horse was miles lower than several others I contacted, and that was with the open claim on the other horse. I'll be sticking with them for now!

Insured one horse with them, never again. The one and only time I have ever made an insurance claim so I don't know if this is the norm but the horse in question needed a scintigraphy. The vet made the report to SEIB but they didn't want to know, they said if I wanted to go ahead and pay for it myself they would consider reimbursing me but only after they had seen the scan would they be able to decide.

The horse had full insurance, was vetted prior to purchase and was fully fit and sound prior to this. Made me think whether insurance for vet fees was worth the premiums or whether putting money to one side would be better.

This was 6 years ago, maybe they have improved since then.

Paid up for an operation within 4 months of going with them - I felt so guilty, God knows why !

Lorry is insured with them and also have breakdown cover, had to use it once and they were very good.

That's fairly standard. Insurance companies can never say 100% they will pay for something. The most they can do is say they have no objection to the procedure being carried out. They never know what the scan will throw up or comments the vet might make. So they can't agree to pay for something if the results then show there isn't a valid claim.

Fair enough. Friends horse had a scan last year, she's with Pet Plan and they paid out for the scan no problem, none of this we'll decide later. I suppose it pays being with a good insurer so you have piece of mind that if you need your insurance to cover vet fees, it's there and because of my experience with SEIB I would never use them again.

Ive had scintography done on 2 horses, 1 insured with petplan and 1 with kbis.
Both companies have said the same as seib said to you. Basicly they cant garentee to pay for anything until they get the claim and they wont pay if nothing is found.
Fairly standard stuff! My vet outright said that if they need insurance to pay for it a good vet can ALWAYS Find something
