Just trying to get ideas, I'm with Animal Friends, but not sure I've made the right choice as I've heard a few mixed reviews....Had a quote from SEIB but not sure what they're like!
SEIB are brokers - but they are also the liable party and the party you deal with if there is a claim. We've been with them for various policies over 10 years and they have always been great. On occasion KBIS came up cheaper for some horses (and once the NFU did) but SEIB have always been the most competitive for the trailers.
Insured one horse with them, never again. The one and only time I have ever made an insurance claim so I don't know if this is the norm but the horse in question needed a scintigraphy. The vet made the report to SEIB but they didn't want to know, they said if I wanted to go ahead and pay for it myself they would consider reimbursing me but only after they had seen the scan would they be able to decide.
The horse had full insurance, was vetted prior to purchase and was fully fit and sound prior to this. Made me think whether insurance for vet fees was worth the premiums or whether putting money to one side would be better.
This was 6 years ago, maybe they have improved since then.
That's fairly standard. Insurance companies can never say 100% they will pay for something. The most they can do is say they have no objection to the procedure being carried out. They never know what the scan will throw up or comments the vet might make. So they can't agree to pay for something if the results then show there isn't a valid claim.
