Anyone seen the recent Lucinda Green video with Tom McEwan on FB?

What a disheartening video clip . The few stride of walk clearly show a horse lame behind. I ve never seen a 'fresh' horse act like this - and I ve ridden some fresh eventers in my time ! A very unhappy horse, not enjoying his work at all- and the blurb is that he is keeping the horse 'confident' . Disappointing - I fed up of these 'elite' riders of whatever discipline - its all self promotion/money/ success, and all love of the horses is forgotten.

ETA Some comments remain, such as this one. Lovely.

“The real sad thing about this really useful clip is the pink welly brigade and the key board warriors with the know it all negative comments which quite honestly are farcical ... seriously Lucinda and Tom will have produced more horses to Olympic level than any of you and yet you think you know better 🤣🤣 if you don't want to learn off a useful video scroll past instead of embarrassing yourself 🤣🤣

Not quite sure what there was to 'learn' from watching that video except ignoring what a horse is trying to tell you and pushing it on anyway.

To be fair most seem social media horse videos seem to come with a generous helping of bonkers comments.

Interesting use of the term ‘optics’ by insiders who are trying to defend a video of an unsound unhappy horse being repeatedly ask to jump by two of the top names in international eventing.

‘Optics’ means that eventing is now trying not to publicly show overt evidence of unsound horses being pressed on under saddle? But it’s ok if it goes on behind the scenes and out of sight of the fluffy bunnies?

No one has said that the horse is terminally lame, he might just have tweaked himself. That a top rider didn’t pull him up early session and declare him not fit to continue is beyond depressing.

If that video had been posted by a lesser known HHOer asking if their horse was lame the same posters would have said yes, he is lame, stop riding him and get a vet check.

Agree that if horse normally does that exercise well, and suddenly doing that - and it isn't as if it is at the same corner every time for example, spooking at something, you would stop and investigate. Horse may have tweaked something getting out of bed (!) and be fine tomorrow, and hopefully he is.
Exactly this - it just shocks me that they think this is ok put out on socials. I hope it wasn’t to increase engagement with posts, knowing people would comment. Though Lucinda uses her channel to push her training subscription, so how could it ever be beneficial.

They’re either blind to the issue or don’t care about it. I’d have been way more impressed if the caption was ‘look at how Tom deals with a horse who doesnt feel quite right that day…’ and showed him getting off and walking the horse back to the yard.

This horse may be fine tomorrow but I am fed up with strong, skilled riders getting on (usually amateurs') broken horses, effortlessly making them perform, and dragging out the road to a diagnosis (and sometimes PTS) for far too long, while making the owners feel like idiots in the process. I've seen it enough thanks.

I rewatched and when he walks on the left rein in a small circle, he looks shockingly off on that right hind.Hope they get him sorted. Some of the comments allude to unless you’ve ridden at Olympic level you can’t comment, which is ludicrous!!!

But it doesnt look like its tweaked something , it looks seriously protesting and clearly sayin g ' i cant do this'

The frame the rider is putting in is to force it to comply, trapped between spurs and a forced head carriage

Just off to polish me pink wellies
Pink Wellies must be the new 'pony patter' haha

What was that poster trying to say with the pink wellies brigade comment? What does that mean??

P
Does anyone actually wear pink wellies beyond the age of 5?
I've always wanted red wellies but made do with burgundy ones which is adult red.
Yes I have seen adults in short pink wellies; usually pony club mums.

Surely Tom's horses have the very best vet care in view of who his dad is?

It's a derogatory expression used to simultaneously demean people who don't agree with pushing animals in pain to perform, and people who like pink.

No one actually gives a sh1t what color your wellies are, they'll be mud/poo colored soon enough and it bears no relevance to your horsemanship or lack thereof ....

Well I suppose its meant to infer if you are daft enough to wear such obscenities, you may well be incapable, unqualified and your sense of judgement is so poor it disqualifies you from bring capable of commenting on the video

Is that not MORE reason to think theres an issue?! Theres a horse behaving out of character not moving properly behind, ie lame. It doesnt take a genius to realise the two may be related.

Either way, you get off and investigate, you dont keep repeating the exercise.
I am becoming more and more disillusioned with horse sport. I went off SJ a few years ago, CJD made me re-evaluate dressage and I stupidly thought eventing was cleaner. I think I'm done which is such a pity as its something I have enjoyed for 30+years as an adult and loved as a child🙁. I took a break for 15 years but then rediscovered it. My daughter and I continued to follow eventing even after she stopped horses. It was something nice we shared. No more I think. ☹️

Same here, I find I no longer watch it or engage in the competitive side that I used to get excited about following.

Now it just turns my stomach and I find myself wondering what goes on behind the scenes if this is what is shown to the public and we are expected to accept it’s ok.
