Horse in question is a 8 year old Connemara Gelding that is low mileage. We have recently moved yards and he is now on much better grazing/large fields and about 7weeks ago I have started putting back shoes on him for the first time in his life. Last Thursday he came in from the field with these swellings and they have only gone down very little since, I have bandaged the legs overnight and been cold hosing. There is no heat in these swellings, he is not lame and does mind me prodding it. The swelling feels quite soft and fluidy.
I am wondering if it could be a bit of concussion from the hard ground or possibly to much protein but then would the whole leg not be puffy? Has anyone experienced this? He is now on a 5 day bute trial and will be stabled for part of the day. If no improvement then I will call the vet out.
Please let me know if link to pictures is not working.
