As title really.

Weather is so bad here today. Just been out with the dog and nearly got blown over.

Iv only brought my boy in because hes on a diet but i think if he was still ment to be out, he would now be coming in at night.
 
Well, I was just wondering this morning if my horse needed a rug on today, outside, but I decided not. He has just a little light summer sheet at night at the moment and although he had a rain sheet on yesterday, it was because it was raining and I wanted him clean for a lesson last evening.

I don't think it is cold enough yet for rugs in the daytime and it isn't that cold at night.
Horses have coats (growing fast) to keep them warm. You know if they are cold because they keep rolling in the mud.
 
Yup, all of ours still out 24/7, unrugged.

They will stay out as long as poss, hopefully til end Oct/early Nov, & rugged as the temperature drops.

We are lucky though as we still have a lot (a lot!) of grass left, if they were on bare paddocks, we'd prob start bringing in sooner :)
 
Yep, mine is still out.

I will keep mine out as long as another horse stays out at night to keep her company, as whilst I will put her out in the day on her own (if no one does, if god forbid it rains in the winter!) I cannot leave her out alone at night but I am *hoping* were make it til november-ish!

OO i feel like a wimp now lol.
Mine had a rug on during the day yesterday when it was raining but i took it off around 1ish when the sun came out.
I think its cold now (yup i am a wimp) but my boy wintered out the last 2 years (before he came to me) with no rugs on so he was a wooly mammoth. I couldnt put up with the thick mud this year so he will be rugged.

Must had we have no shelter in the field. Still have lots off grass though. My poor man is rather fat so i have to bring him in as he doesnt need anymore weight on, dont want him struggling with him legs

All four out and unrugged still, will be for as long as poss. thay are all living out this year will be rugged in the end. But TB is out unrugged still, i think it is heathly for them to grow their own natural thick winter coat and then be rugged once they have done that.

Still mild really...need to think we will feel the cold long before the horses do. :D
 
Mine will be out all winter hopefully as my 26yo doesn't settle in his stable, he paces and is much more settled living out. Both wearing lightweights now as i need my youngster dry to ride and I don't want the old one getting wet and losing weight. I am lucky though as my fields are surrounded by trees so quite sheltered!
 
Mine are all still out 24/7, the two "chilly" chestnuts have a rain sheet as they are in a fairly windy location, the other three - two natives and one 3/4 TB - are naked.
 
Out till end of Oct, we try to keep them out as long as possible really until we get the really bad weather to the point where it effects the grazing then they must come in during the night, but they have been having hay for the last month, hard feed all year round.
 
Still out - 2 with lightweights on at night but the 2 TB (one wimpy - one old) medium weight at night. Today is a bit bitter so all got raincoats on today. The wind blows accross our place like you wouldnt believe.
 
The horrid one is still out without a rug. He will live out all winter and i hope to put off putting a rug on him for as long as possible as half his mane got rubbed out last winter and it still hasn't grown back fully. :(
Some people think i'm mean but I just say "Well he's a forest bred forester. He wouldn't have a rug or stable if he was still on the forest" :p :D
 
My two are out and will rarely come in over the whole of winter. Older horse has 100g rug on and other horse has too rain rugs. Both had clamped their tails down yesterday from trying to keep warm in the 30mph wind with rain. 1 Rain sheet wasn't enough. Temperature was about 5 last night with wind chill on top. Autumn has arrived! The winter coats WILL come through even though the horses are rugged- they need a thick coat, if its just long they're cold. I also can't afford for my horses to be cold in their backs and clamping tail as it causes tension and so aches and pains!
 
My mare and foal are still out unrugged. They will hopefully be out until the middle of october. Its still too warm to rug them and im trying to hold off until at least October to rug them.

They will be staying as they are unless the weather drastically changes.
 
Ours will be out 24/7 again this winter. They do have lots of natural shelter and free access to come and go as they please in their stables. Not rugging yet as still been quite warm here but if it turned wet and the winds were cold then would be.
 
Mine are out 24/7, & rugged or not dep on weather. In summer turnouts atm. They have a double field shelter which they do use.

I have a 37 yo TBx & a 6 yo ex-racer, & I am planning on keeping them out & rugged to death all winter. We're on sand so the ground never gets boggy, & they're fed 3 x day with ad lib hay as well. The oldie is awful stabled...box walks, neighs, door kicks & tips her food & water in her bed. It looks like a swamp after a single night in.
 
Mines fully clipped (legs, head, the lot) and is out with a full neck rainsheet and a lwt on top of that. She is warm and happy at the moment, but does get 2 hard feed a day and has got grass left :) She will be out until we swap to "winter" grazing towards the end of October :)
 
Girls are out in lightweights 24/7 unless weather is really horrific and I`ll bring them in for the night.
Hoping to keep them out until End of October, depending on how bad the weatyer is
 
My new girl will be out 24/7 all winter there is stables that they can go into if they want. Will keep the rugs off as long as posssible this will be the first time in many years l have not brought in over winter.
