Anyone struggling for motiviation and any tips??

Winter Is GREAT because there are no flies..... And a hot bath after a freezing ride is BLISS!

Er ok so that's about it for the motivation. The rest of it is a dreary, muddy, chilly PITA.

Top Tips:

GLOVES. Lots of pairs so you can swap into dry pairs frequently
THERMOS – hot, strong coffee.
WIND AND WATERPROOF JODHS – Decathlon do a fab cheapish pair. Look like a dominatrix but hey ho
WARM WOOLY HATS. I have about 20!
RIDE FIRST: Chores have to be done, riding doesn’t so if you do jobs first you run the risk of bailing.
ENTER CLINICS OR COMPS: If you have transport you can get to indoor SJ, arena eventing etc. If not you can still do interdressage. Having a focus/goal is helpful for my motivation
HUNTING! If that’s your thing….
GET UP EARLY AT WEEKENDS. If you struggle to ride in the week make the most of weekend.
JUST DO IT: I always find that thinking about it is far more miserable than doing it. Once I am on board then usually I warm up, get interested in what I am doing and forget about the weather. Last weekend I hadn’t even noticed I was riding in quite heavy snow until In saw a video clip afterwards!

If all else fails, don't worry. It will soon be Spring!

I say this a lot.

DO NOT TAKE SUPPLEMENTS BEFORE YOU HAVE A BLOOD TEST!

Have the blood test. MAKE them do a full blood panel, thyroid, vitamin D and B12. Then get the results and check yourself. Vit D needs to be 125 or higher, B12 1000 at least.

Do not accept supplements from your GP. They are crap and wont work. If you are deficient, and 75% of people in the UK are deficient in vitamin D so you are more likely to be than not, then join the Facebook groups and follow the protocols. Its not expensive and the difference it will make is absolutely staggering.

Having lost a good part of my life to this I am always happy to talk to anyone about it and/or point you in the right direction because if someone hadnt done similar for me a couple of years ago I would still be limping on dragging myself around more dead than alive. You dont realise how bad things are until you start to get better in most cases.

Good advice - but you might need to fund it yourself. I gather the test costs about £48 and GPS are conscious of costs these days. I had to really argue with mine to get her to agree to one, and you might find much the same

Any woman around the menopause age feeling sluggish and tired should demand a thyroid test and then make sure if they have an issue it’s properly medicated and monitored the difference you will feel getting an under active thyroid properly treated is huge .

Which group? I was low and take vit D

However if it is underactive you definitely need to get everything else optimal. Vitamin D is heavily implicated in thyroid problems. Mine has dropped fairly dramatically as the the vitamin D level has gone up

I have 3 at home - only one is ridden but all in at night since early November. It’s hard going, I also work full time and can work longish hours at times, but I have my routine like clockwork. My school is in front of my stables and I have lighting on the posts so can ride through winter. I try and ride 4/5 times a week but don’t always succeed (it was 3 times last week due to a lost shoe). This winter has been horrendous - my fields are the worst I’ve ever seen them.

I was stern with myself today and gave myself a kick up the backside to ride - but there was such a strong, icy wind I didn't really enjoy it. (Horse seemed OK about it though!)
