So who fancies CC-ing Annie :) ... Iv had her a week and a hf and shes been in work for 2 weeks exactly. Annie is breed to event and is 4 in april. Shes doing 20-30mins in the school 4 days a week, walking, troting and a few canters on each rein and walkingg/troting over some poles. She also gets lunged for 10mins once a week as she can be nappy when lunging so she needs to learn not to nap when lunging. Does anyone think this is to much work for her? ... CC away please :D

She is a very fast learner and is so sweet and lovely in every way ... well appart from lifting the back feet!!

Apple crumble for all :D

personally I wouldnt be doin gthat much in the school, you can achieve far more on hack imo. you dont say weather you hack or not?
 
I'd get some hacking in the routine too...

you say she's bad lunging, what is she like to long rein? Only because I think these ground basics are esential and when missed you always find out sometime in the future.

She's a lovely sort. When were her front feet last done? She looks very long in the toe?
 
She's a really nice sort and very pretty :)

Being critical, she is quite straight through the hindleg and a little upright behind through the pasterns. She's a fraction long in the cannon all round. She has quite long and sloping pasterns in front.
She is strong in her body and has a good powerful hindquarter. She's a fraction straight in the shoulder but her neck comes out of her wither nicely and her head is well set on.

How is she bred?

imo she has a Shortish neck and slightly upright shoulder, but wow what a shoulder! Its huge! :D And a lovely eye :D
Plus I hate you as you managed to get a coloured with the hocks not white!

Can you hack her more? Would be good for her to see outside the arena :)

Was this horse bought from Carolyn Mellor in NI? I recognised those stunning markings. I've admired this horse of hers for a long time, it's hard to believe she's only 3. Beautiful!
 
She is very pretty looking but she looks like she has the head and neck of a pony stuck onto the backend of a larger horse - nothing wrong but kind of 'cut and shut' which is what I thought of one of my previous horses.
I dont think she'd win any prizes for confo but she looks much better ridden which is all important, plus id choose a short necked horse over a long necked horse every day of the week.
 
TheMule - shes by Glenhill gold out of an ISH mare.
Galaxy - shes not really bad at lunging just on the right rein will trot round then turn in then i push her back out and she does it again and again! But we repeated this for about 5mins on Sat and she eventually went round about 4 laps without turning in so we left it there. Her feet were done on Thursday!!

RE the hacking!! Shes only ever been hacked in compamy and atm theres not many safe horses to hack with and we only have a wineding (sp) road to hack down :/ so i have been a bit reluctant to fenture that far yet!!! But i shall see if we can find a safe friend lol

Yeap :D But carolyn didnt own her, she was with them to be broke and sold. She is such a wee pet and soooo much fun to work with!! Shes a bit jumpy with noises as its very busy around here but she seems to have settled in so well and is working very nicely for only being here for just over a week!!
 
she is very well-marked, and has a beautiful, inquisitive, kind face. i'm not a fan of coloureds but i wouldn't pass her up!

the only thing that sticks out for me is her front hooves, as others said she is quite long in the toe and her hoof-pastern-axis isn't quite correct. also in the ridden photo she looks like she may over-reach.

i agree with the others that you should take her out the school and get her used to sights & sounds, working in the school all the time can be rather boring and tedious for a young horse. other than that - good luck with her! she's gorgeous.
 
Personally I would change farriers asap as her front feet are far too long and with her confirmation will only encourage problems like navicular later in life. I would also vary her work with more hacking than schooling, get her out and about a bit, but you've only had her a week so can understand why you haven't!!
 
She is gorgeous, but I would be getting a good farrier out to sort out those front feet - very poor balancing going on there - long toe and what looks like the beginnings of a collapsed heel.

But gorgeous - beautiful markings.
 
Long in the front pastern with collapsed heels. Toes too long. Short in the back but not necessarily a bad thing but could possibly lead to KS in later life, especially if you want her to event. ( Please note I said COULD )

Pretty mare but I don't think she is the eventing type ( depending on what level you intend ) more of a working hunter.

Gee thanks!! Fair enough her head is slightly small and she has a short neck but i personally dont think its that bad!! But hey ho, one mans rubbish is another mans gold ... or however that saying goes :D

RE the front feet i agree her toe looks long and will get a 2nd opinion tomoro on them :D The back ones were done for the first time ever on Thurs and this was the second time the fronts have been done. thanks :)

She's a lovely looking mare and while she doesn't have perfect conformation how many horses do? I would ask your farrier what he thinks about her feet because I agree her front toes do look a little long and heels look like they need support although, difficult when not shod. Is she quite flat footed?

I know it's not always easy hacking out although I think it'a important for a young horse to have a varied training program plus it gets them used to the outside world.

Not to hiijack or anything, but why would a short back lead to kissing spines?

I get the medical aspect ie. vertebrae are closer together, but usually a short back is a strong back?

I'm no farrier, but she looks like she is shod with toe clips? I would have said she would do better with quarter clips to bring the break over point back a bit and give her more heel support too.

Yeap they have toe clips, are the quarter clip ones the ones which are on the back feet usually? My friends pony who has the same front feet confo used to have back shoes on the front feet and they seemed well balanced but now hes in the same as my girl and they always look long like hers to!! The vet is coming out tomorow to look at a friends horse so do you think it would be a good idea to ask her about the quarter clips?

OK, as others have already said, front feet are a worry and she is a little long in the pastern. For me she is rarther upright in the shoulder and I agree with the cut and shut comments - her front end and back end don't match up.

However she is still very young and many an ugly duckling turns into a swan.

On the positive side, she has a lovely head and is nicley marked.

She seems to have a very good attitude.

Personally I do not do much with my 3 / 4 year olds and given them plenty of breaks back in the field to digest what they have learned.
 
Just enjoy your new mare :) No, her conformation is not favourable and it is worth bearing in mind the potential issues which have been highlighted, however if you like her and she suits you then I hope you both have many years of fun together. She does have a pretty face and a kind eye.

echo both of these. Her back end is bound to muscle up and catch up so don't worry. But glad to see you are sorting out front feet as with already having long sloping pasterns it really could cause all sorts of lameness problems with the added foot unbalance

Very few horses have perfect conformation so don't worry to much. sort out the feet, work her gently to build up back end and you will have a lovely sort there

sorry but that was a bit harsh! you make it sound like she's an awful horse and she isn't really, not many horses out there have absolutely perfect conformation. she has a few faults, yes, but over-all she is a good looking mare.

i may have read another post wrong, but did you say her front feet were trimmed only a few weeks ago? if this is the case, then i would advise getting another, better, farrier as he didn't do a very good job - her toes are still very long and her heels are quite small, and like somebody else said, this could end up in her having collapsed heels.

can i just ask - how did you teach her to canter?

ive tried poles/jumps etc with mine and shes just so damn lazy (and very green)! :D

p.s we dont hack either.

Melxvengence her feet were done 4 days ago :/ but as said vet is coming tomorrow so il get her to have a look and ask about the quarter clips :) ... Also think we'll cut the schooling down and add hacking as i really dont want to do to much to soon and also make her stale!!
