Anyone's horse prefer hay to haylage?

Have been having a nightmare trying to get horse to eat haylage (have 20 large bales in yard!!) and he won't eat it.

He will, however, eat hay. Am fed up of soaking hay so have found some dust extracted hay which comes in bags. Looks as though I'm going to have to feed that instead!!
 
I don't have any dust problems with my two but they both prefer hay to haylage. FB wouldn't even look at the stuff when he lived in the south and was fed straw - he'd eat the straw in preference everytime and turn his nose up at the very expensive haylage.

Could you not steam your hay instead? Someone on here has a very nifty home made steamer design involving a wall paper steamer on a timer and a wheelie bin!
 
If I stable away anywhere I feed mine Horsehage as I have to soak her hay which is awkward if you're not at home. She will force it down, if that's all there is. We have pretty rubbish hay at the moment but she still prefers that.

She would wolf down the locally made big bale haylage though - shame it makes her come out in lumps.

My last horse wouldn't touch haylage;I bought a load thinking she would love it but preferred the old, slightly dusty hay!
 
My horse prefers haylage (it is from good quality round bales). I think it's because it is jucier and he is greedy! Steaming hay makes it taste and smell sweeter if it is good quality. I used to get a big black rubbish bin, stick it is there, boil a kettle and chuck it over the hay. Then stick the lid on and leave it for 15 mins.
